1.6 kia forte turbo vs s40

Sup guys. My s40 is still running strong except for my tranny still. I have issues with it when its cold, it shifts hard into second. I was lined up agaist a guy in his kia forte turbo with a woman in his car(possibly gf?) which made this interesting since I had my gf in my car. He motioned for a race on a closed course onramp. Me being cocky I gave him 1 car length before going WOT at 30mph. I wasnt able to pass him to about 70mph but at 100mph I had 3 car lengths on him. Thats the best race I've had in terms of how close it was to 70mph, Kia forte turbo has 200ish hp at the crank with a 1.6 liter dohc, appeared to be automatic due to not noticing any sudden drops in the rear end of his car on acceleration.

Temps were a low 30 degrees Fahrenheit btw. Once I get my boost controller installed I would love to see a low 15 second time slip! :)  First things first though, need a tranny job before I drive 45min to the closest 1/4 track, haha.

 Here's how she sounds NEU

Sounds good.  Reminds me of my old S40.

Best time I ever saw on mine was a 14.8 at 97mph and a 14.6 at 103mph.  That was with a 14T turbo running 15psi, full exhaust and a tune.  At the drag strip,  i also improved my time by pulling the drivers side corner light off and ducting an air ram right into the airbox.  This resulted in a in a P0103,  MAF high input,  basically maxed out the sensors ability to read airflow.  Back in the day,  there was a member who found a workaround to be able to ingest more air without losing calibration of the MAF.  You can also install the MAF into a bigger housing and retune the ECM, effectively raising the ceiling at which the MAF can readout.  On my setup,  i was making 210whp and 260ftlb, so add say 20% for drivetrain loss through the auto,  i'd estimate the power at the crank to have been 252hp and 312 ftlb.

Nice times, thats alot of torque! I got really baaad news though. My tranny just crapped out on me this morning. Luckily my car is only ten minutes away until I get a car trailer to bring her home. My tranny was cold and heard a loud pop noise and instantly lost power to the wheels at a slow 15mph. I cracked the housing somewhere on the passengers side of the tranny, there's about a 300ft trail of tranny fluid to where it's parked right now. I'm getting the 90k mile tranny now and in a big rush to get this fixed asap.

Not sure I'd be too proud that you barely beat a 1.6L with 201hp and 195lb-ft stock with a 1.9L T4 with 200hp and 220lb-ft stock... And yours is modified.

we dont' have T4 in North America.  Even in his best condition, his lpt turbo would put out close to the factory spec of that Kia turbo.  and you talking about 15 years old car vs 1-2 year old .

For me, i get angry when my fuel gauge keep going down even I try to not speed   i'm lucky if I don't get stuck in traffic these days.

stupid E10 Gasoline crap we get.

Yea man. Same here, lol. Shelf life is absolute crap with the E10!! My gauge is going to move awfully fast when I get my upgraded turbo and injectors, preferably a 16t.

Anyone have any luck in some type of shift kit for the automatic on the 2000 s40? Doing so would eliminate alot of heat generated by our slushbox, lol. While I have the new tranny out should I just drop the pan and do the 4.5-5 quarts or a full flush(12 quarts)? I've heard mixed reviews on doing a full flush on a functional tranny.

I went off the info his sig and Wikipedia for s/v40 specs since I'm a 5banger guy. ;) What threw me was he uses 1.9L not the 2.0L. Plus he doesn't have his location so I couldn't tell where he's from.

BTW where do you get Castro oil? Cuba?

It is not hard since U.S has re-establish relationship with Cuba recently.  Free cigar with every order.
