whatme
I have been saying i would do this things to my car now i finaly have enough money to spend. Im on a budget of about twenty-five hundered to three thousand. I am planing for a jt turbo back exhaust and a k&n filter for just the basics. I was also thinking an ipd chip and maybe a small wet injection nitrous kit but that might set me back a month or so. I was wondering if anyone had anyother suggestions for basic mods beyond the exhaust and the chip. I have money and its burning a hole in my pocket and im not to sure what i should spend it on. V Tuning 850
1. I suggest you do Stage 0 first.2. Do the K&n panel filter, and 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust.3. ECU upgradeIn this order, just like you stated. This sounds really good right now. However I don't think I would do the nitrous at all.
StickThatClutch
No thoughts on suspension?I know Greg has a great GB going down for weitechs. :)
EricF
The easiest thing to do, and what I would do if I didn't get involved with crazy stuff:3" exhaust, new paper filter (or cone filter if going K&N), some chip, and a 16T turbo. Keep in mind you have the smaller turbine housing and outlet on your car (the '95 cars did), and a 16T would be a pretty meaningful upgrade I think.Depending on how much the exhaust costs, this should set you back around $2000. On top of this you could get a small wet nitrous kit probably. At that point I would invest in an aftermarket transmission cooler (not expensive), and flush your transmission fluid (not too expensive either). Plan_B
Do the K&N last. :D
ToxicLemonade
if you go with a chip, go RICA, you will save yourself money in the long run when you decide to upgrade to larger injectors/turbo etc.

EricF
Suspension is a tough thing to recommend to someone... If it's a daily driven car in an area with rough roads and not many twisty roads, it's a waste of money IMO, at least depending on their driving style it is.Engine mods are pretty much more shoo-ins to a certain point. InlineTurbo
I'd consider an EST type intake or the carbon fiber one. I had the K&N and changed to the EST intake after a chip + exhaust and the car seemed to run a bit stronger. Nothing really scientific to back that up, but boost seemed to come smoother and now I'm holding 16+ psi instead of 15.Also I'd definitely suggest a suspension. If you don't mind a bit harsher ride it does a lot of good in controlling wheelspin and handling increases dramatically. Konis on soft really aren't that bad. Just don't adjust the front hard while keeping the rears soft. :P
Guest DougK
Personally, I'd do this in this order:1. Stage 0. ATLEAST a good tune up, visual inspect of all hoses, boost gauge. Replace bad hoses as needed, if more than 2, spring for the Samco's or EST RIP (search) kit.2. Speedtuning chip3. Go to a local exhaust shop. You can ussualy get a decent cat back made for 500 or less. Hell, use 3" crush bends if your really on a budget, wont be any worse than 2.5" mandrel bends imo. That will get you down around 14.0-14.2 @ almost a 100 on a well driven car. This should put you at no more than 1500 dollars. Next:4. Springs and shocks, I suggest snagging up one of the extra Weitec kits. The price is hard to beat and you'll be exclusive. You can always wait I'll be doing my review inside of a month. (2000-2200 dollars now)5. Fresh pads and discs if needed. Stopping is important too.6. iPd sways or good tires. That should finish off your budget nicely. You'll be attacking almost all area's of the car. Nice thing is, it'll be the perfect base for future modding. Doug
