TEEKAY
Replaced this the other day. Had been in traffic last month and hit 232ish coolant temp and the needle was slightly past vertical. Tried activating both fans in Vida but only the fullspeed went on. UK boards had s post with a service bulletins pics. Mine was mounted horizontally but some people have them diagonally. Seems you just need to make sure you keep it the same length as before on the wires in either instance and you'll be alright. The replacement was a Ford part with a volvospeed sticker in it in a Volvo box.

theForgottenone
you have the crimp the connectors?
Phixion
When I had replaced the rad on my 40, that resistor was horizontal on mine. I think you should be alright at 230F'ish, that's around where the needle begins moving... My S60 now, will peak at up 225F before the fan starts cooling down. TEEKAY
I had to splice it inline. The bulletin pics I saw had them being crimped with connectors like that. I saw the needle slightly beyond vertical so I knew i was having an issue and looked at the temp with the app and it was at 232.
Phixion
If it didn't truly get over 232F, then you should be alright. I don't know what temp the head can warp at, but just keep an eye on things. Glad you caught it before it could get worse.

Phixion
That's what I was thinking too, lol! Left to right, not up and down, right?? Vertical should mean 300F+++!!

Phixion
That's pretty high!! When I had over-heating issues first when my upper hose split open at the elbow, and then again when my radiator popped open a streaming leak, I learned a lot about temp and how the needle reacts... The needle would begin moving from normal operating temp position (dead middle) at around 225 - 230F Halfway between middle and top was about 245F or so. My ScanGauge II monitoring the temp in digital format (from the OBD-II port) is where I got my info from. Anything over 250F would bring it close to the top. My initial mishap of the upper hose breaking took my motor to a peak of 272F, the needle pegged to the red line. After getting a "replacement" flex hose (before realizing the 3-way elbow is there for a reason) I drove the car mostly downhill thankfully many miles away to pick up the replacement hose I had gotten. I was able to keep the temp at or below 230F and generally around 215F for the better of 20 miles. Yeah, I'd never recommend doing that. But that's where I learned well when and what temp the needle would move at and what temps between top and middle the needle position would translate to. Operating temp is a VERY WIDE range at middle. But below a certain point and above a certain point, the needle does actually tell an accurate story, hence it's not as dumb of a gauge as we tend to say it is. If the needle was around 1 o'clock position, you were closer to 245 - 250F. Was it VIDA that told you 232F max was attained?
