Computer problems

Recommended Posts

For years I have chased a starting problem in my 2005 V70R. It is intermittent and will go for months with no problem. Then one day it just won't even click. All lights will light and all sorts of random stuff won't work totally unrelated to starting. Then for no reason and without changing anything, it will operate normally and again for months. This morning I had a new gremlin. while traveling at freeway speed, I felt a bump in the front end and the vehicle started bogging like the transmission was slipping. I got a transmission service needed. I parked it for about 90 minutes and restarted and  all was normal again. I do now have a check engine light and the transmission warning is still present. As we all know, mechanical problems do not repair themselves so my conclusion as with past problems is computer or connection problems. I will reset the warnings after reading the codes and see if the warning returns. What say the gurus here?

Sounds more like it's an electrical problem, not mechanical...

Could you provide more details, like codes, what work has been done (anything electrical?), conditions it happens (i.e. hot or cold) what other things won't work and the like?

The only advice I'll give you with what you've provided is to get the codes. Then start with the battery and work your way up the food chain... Check the condition of the battery and the voltage, look for corrosions and clean up all your contacts. Check it with the car both off and running see if there is a difference...

Lack or drops in voltage will make the computer act up and throw codes...
