True Knight
2004 S40 w/ 137k. Had transmission flush done around 75k. Wasn't planning to do it again until closer to 150k. Any ways, the other day the wife was backing the car out of a parking spot (after parking over night) and there was a jerk while in reverse. She said it felt like someone rear-ended her. Then she put it into drive out of the parking lot and at that point, the Up Arrow was blinking. Put the car in Park, turned it off and back on, and Up Arrow was still blinking and CEL came on. Then I cycled it through the gears but Up Arrow was still flashing with CEL on. Car was in limp-mode for about 4 miles until she got to where I was. Parked and turned off the car. I started the car and now the up arrow was gone with just the CEL. Then I drove it home some 55 miles without any problems (no longer in limp-mode) but the CEL remained. Just got my scanner and the the codes it pulled was P0602, P0700, and P0700 Pending. I haven't taken it to the mechanic yet but if this is an early indication that the transmission is about to go, then I guess I should be exploring options. True Knight
Forgot to mention that the car is pretty much stock.
theForgottenone
Did she shift it really quick before it got warm up? Because I did that once and it had the same symptom.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
Check and clean all the grounds around the ecu and TCM
Welditup
I wouldn't do a flush again, it may make your transmission worse. Find a trustworthy mechanic that knows Volvos and go from there is what I would do. Cleaning grounds around the ecu and tcm is a good start that 33647_1450202331 has. james02s40
I know this sounds stupid but can anyone post a picture of where the ECU is on a 2002 model s40? I would like to clean around the contacts first before taking this in for service.
sks40
If I recall, the TCM is in the driver side kick panel.
