tweekgt4
The turbo in my 99 V70R is now screaming. No smoke, just loud scraping noises. It's parked in the garage now waiting for me to figure out which turbo I can replace it with. The turbo in my 99 is a 18T. Short of looking for another 18T from another 99 V70R. What other turbos will just drop in with the same performance or better? I originally thought a turbo from a T5 would work but from a little research, they have 16T turbos. Will a 19T just drop in without a tune? Also, I have an Upsolute chip flash if that may make a difference. Thanks for any advice.
Diio
if you replace your 18T with a 19T you shuld do a tune for that
ConorV70R
18T and 19T flow about the same so you won't get that much of a difference. What about just rebuilding the 18T? Also is it straight flanged or angle flange because i know that the 19t's are angle flanged.
tweekgt4
Angled flange. I thought about a rebuild kit but have to find someone who can rebuild it and also get a quality rebuild kit. I ordered a used turbo from LKQ but they sent one from a 2.4 AWD which was a 13T. I'll have to check in with them again on Monday if they are open to see if they have one from a 2.3l AWD.. The T5s are 16T so that won't work. tweekgt4
No go on the 2nd used turbo so I sent my old one off to be rebuilt.
flyfishing31568908306
personally, i'd go K24 if you are going to do the work. def. will need a tune, maybe injectors also.
tweekgt4
Turbo rebuilt by Cliff at Turbo Power in Cameron Park. http://www.turbo-power.com/ Cliff took care of the rebuild for a little under $500 plus shipping back to me. Turbo was installed earlier this week and the car feels way smoother and a lot quicker. I don't drive it as much as I used to so I can't report much more. My wife drives it daily and even she can tell there's a difference. Cliff said the turbo wasn't bad and was surprised I told him the turbo had about 203k miles. It had a little shaft play and some carbon build-up which was mostly likely why I heard some screaming that went away. With the Upsolute Tune way I had done back when and now with the rebuilt turbo, I had seen boost spikes of 1.6 Bar during the limited test drives I've had. I'll report if we blow the engine (hope not!). I haven't had much of a chance to test drive the car but it doesn't always spike to 1.6 Bar. IIRC, I used to see 1.2-1.4 on the old turbo. Thanks again for all the replies!
flyfishing31568908306
if everything is proper ( stage 0) 1.6 should be fine. my tune is set for 1.8. Just drive smartly.
