Ipd Grill

Is that a recommended setup?  My iPd grille is en route and while it is black and would hide the little pull hook, is the only consequence of not having the third lock that if you pop the hood while driving it will fly open?

WHY would you pop the hood on a moving car? but in answer to your question yes, if you remove the safety catch and you are traveling forwards and pop the hood you will be buying another one amoung other things

And if you choose to do this, get a video of it :)

I had a side catch let go on the 97 GLT at around 50khm. Second one held and I could not tell if any stress was put on the 3rd one. Was alot of force though. Even at that speed it threw the car sideways. I never liked hoods that open back for this reason.

The 3rd latch on our cars are pretty strong... It was holding my hood closed after my accident, so when I needed to open it, I ended up tearing through that plastic crap holding the latch instead of the latch itself...

It took some muscle :P

I would never (except to get a video) pop my hood while in a moving car, but other than the device that does pop the hood nothing else will pop it - my real question, or in the example provided if one goes at least you'll know and can stop before the other does and hopefully before any damage is done to the hood (if so i'll just upgrade to CF).

Now, i'm really thinking i won't intsall that "U" wire or watever it's called, then i'll just have to lift the hood and ta da, since pulling that black thing would release the third clamp that i would not be using!?

Sweet.. i think i'll do it!

I had this happen to me twice. I first made a coat hanger latch puller and it worked fine. Then got it replaced.

It did it again, and I somehow ziptied the latch back together and it worked great too, looked a lot better as well. Then I sold the car put old grille back on and new latch.

You should also see if the S70 latch system will work on your car. It doesn't have the pull tab, it just has a flap type latch system that is a lot better.

how did you get your iPd grill to fit in the engine bay? mine barely fit in my trunk in its box before I opened it? I tried to install it, but couldn't figure it out...any ideas? Here is a pic of my iPd grill:

My IPD thing snapped due to rust, and when it did it broke the plastic hole. So I looped a piece of black wire thruogh the second hole on the latch, soldered it and viola! Works better IMO, no more rust, stronger than the old pull, and cost $0.02.

So to open the hood once I pop it I just grab the little wire loop instead of the metal IPD "J" shaped hook that was on there. I can post pics if you don't know what I'm talking about. I figured if and when the plastic safety catch breaks altogether I'll just remove the whole thing and roll without it like you guys suggested.
