there was talk of retrofitting the 70 series latch to an 850... that would be slick for you guys.  We don't have that harry highschool rigged latch like you guys do.

i thought you guys in the nw crew were suppose to figure that out :D . i'm a tad reluctant to remove the latch, but it sounds like the way to go. i'm just waiting for the spring to break, so i won't be able to open my hood.

haha, one of the guys with an 850 will just have to buy a latch, and we'll try and make it work.

how did you get your iPd grill to fit in the engine bay?  mine barely fit in my trunk in its box before I opened it?  I tried to install it, but couldn't figure it out...any ideas?  Here is a pic of my iPd grill:

I had a side catch let go on the 97 GLT at around 50khm.  Second one held and I could not tell if any stress was put on the 3rd one.  Was alot of force though.  Even at that speed it threw the car sideways.  I never liked hoods that open back for this reason.

Exactly

People used to use hood pins because they would rather not have a hood fold around their windscreen or any other life threatening hood latch failure. If you are on the cheap, ok maybe you can get away with it but I would never remove that latch on purpose or leave it off my personal car

Why not, is that latch the stongest lock on the hood?

I think i'll keep the part but won't install it. I've never had a car latch un-pop on my and all i've ever driven were cars with single lock hoods.

I have, my friend was driving his car with me riding shotgun and the bonnet folded to the shape of the windscreen
