Mesh Grille

Recommended Posts

good luck on those finals man.. dont get too spazzed out, and you'll do fine

Thank ye. Whew, all done.

As promised, tomorrow (thursday) I will start working on them. I have decided my cost, yet to be determined, will be for approximately how long it takes to make one of these plus the average shipping cost wherever. Obviously, there are still several details to work out with shipping, pricing and specifics...

We've had some issues with product quality and vendors on this site. I want these to be a good product, I want people to get what they pay for, and I want you to be happy with them. I will offer both just a pre-cut mesh piece that may be glued on after removing the vertical slats on the grille, and I will also offer to do the whole process if you ship me your grille first.

I decided I won't be painting any, however. I will ship it back to you already taped, so that you can simply paint it whatever color you want straight away and off you go. This way, you get the exact color you want, painted with whatever brand you want. I also don't end up with 80 different cans of paint in my garage. :o I will also offer pre-drilled holes for the "Volvo" hash if you want to put that back on. The same circular clips can be used again on the mesh setup to hold the hash on.

I will also offer the little mesh inserts for the bumper as well. Right now, all I can do is the 850 R bumper. If you can send me your plastic inserts or even a paper cut-out of the size of the hole, that's enough to grind out a mesh peice.

So tomorrow (thursday) I will figure out a price for these things, and I will charge another $10 over that to actually affix it to your grille. That includes cleaning it out and removing the vertical slats, as well as securely fastening it to the grille frame. I had experimented with glues until I found one that worked so the areas where I attach it will be a bit cleaner than what you see on mine. However, you really have to be that close (like I was to take the picture) to even see that it was glued anyway.

As you can see my attempt to get the side with the trailer hitch didn't turn out too well. I have fixed that by re-designing it and will post a picture of the drastically improved peice soon. If you want to ship me just one piece from the bumper that would be great. They're mirror images of eachother, so I make two pieces and simply grind a "slot" for the trailer hitch. The piece is therefore still one part and looks much better than the donkey poo I first tried.

can't wait man....to cut out the vertical pieces from the factory grill, dremel or what?

Dremel would take forever!!! It's plastic, so I use a jigsaw.

I have a new plan, where I will send you a completed grille and you ship me your original back. This way, no one has a giant hole in the front of their car for a week or so. As of right now, I'm looking to get a stock 850 grille and an s70 grille. If any one has a spare of either of these I will buy it off them. I'm also working with thelostartof to get a template going for the 740's. Once I get a template cut, they're pretty quick work.

As far as price, I have yet to calculate the shipping cost for one of these things... FOR SURE a completed (mesh attached to the frame- ready to paint and clip on to the car) grille, w/ or w/out drilled holes for the hash will be UNDER $50 shipped (just for the grille). I'm sorry I have been taking so long, so there's my ceiling for those interested.

cost for grille w/ bumper inserts?

Oh, and I'd send you my piece... but it's not there o_O At some point, the b just fell out.. maybe someone else can send one?? I think it's the same size as the one on the R bumper, but I'm not sure. Anyone??

dude andy, where will you get all those grills from?...i mean, you'll be sending grills, then waiting for the "core"?

I'm in no matter what....

The idea is to just start with one... obviously then I can't ship out more than one at a time. However I will have enough free time and hopefully by Saturday enough mesh peices pre-made so that my turnaround for cutting the grille and mounting it will be very short.

Otherwise, if people don't mind having their grilles off for a few days, you can ship it directly to me. I was just trying to think of alternatives to prevent that. Saturday I'm going to finish up my first "batch" of about 8 grilles or so. Then I'll dish out my contact information so we can get people's grilles going.

I'm still trying to get a darn good "template" started. Like I said before, I want these too look the best they possibly can before I start sending them off to people.

Um....Ryan,

So I painted my grille again last night and clear coated it, and it's all bumpy and totally uneven and just looks stupid! :(

So I want to remove the paint but not the plastic chrome, what should I use?

Tape off the chrome edges with painters tape or plain masking tape. That will protect the finish while you sand.

I'd love to buy one from you, if the price is right!

Let me know by PM how you want to do it.

I'm still working on the details, I've stated my price ceiling already. Let me finish out these grilles (the goal for Sunday) and then I'll start doleing out info. Darn real job...
