Oem Or Aftermarket Subwoofer

Hi guys,

Trying to get some of your opinions on this so here goes:

Since I now have the 05 V70R, the thump is not what it was like on the S60R. So I'm looking into adding a subwoofer in the back. Question is: Should I go with the Volvo subwoofer or try and figure out adding an aftermarket one? How does the stock one sound? Also, I've heard conflicting prices as to what the oem subwoofer cost, ranging from $350-$600. Aftermarket can fit in that range as well? What do you all think? TIA!

as you browse through this a/v forum, you'll find basically only one recurring theme...

:excl: aftermarket > OEM :excl:

as for brands though.. everyone and their dog has an opinion. Mine: Infinity. 'Nuff said.

Is there an aftermarket source for the OEM subwoofer enclosure for the V70?

A lower cost clone of the OEM enclosure for the stealth if it sounds good..

Where do you hope to mount it? In the OEM location? I believe the retail is 450 for the 12" drop in OEM sub. For that price you could get a nice aftermarket sub/amp but you'd have to build an enclosure to mount it.

I would say go aftermarket because you get better value for the money.

Good luck.

You can probably get a decent self contained sub+amp in the same location as the factory one. The Infinity Basslink is decent and a plug and play piece. The tricky part is getting signal from your factory deck.

Thanks for all the replies. This would be the biggest hurdle. Going aftermarket seems the way to go but I would need the sub, the amp, the enclosure (and some sort of way to hook it up to the stock HU-850 system. I don't what the costs of all of this is going to be. Sure, the OEM one is pretty expensive for what it provides but it's simple plug and play.

Ah... the dilemma... :)
