I know nothing about mechanics, but it sounds like my rear brakes are letting go AFTER I start to pull away and let out a "howl". It gets real bad when Im slowly backing out of the garage and applying the brakes. The dealer is telling me it's "glazing" on the pads because the calipers are so big, and it happens when people break too softly. Has anyone had their dealer fix this for them?? Thanks! Thanks!←OK, I know a little about that car, but a lot about racing. You should not be getting glazing from too little breaking. If they are glazzed for whatever reason, usually a few high speed stops will fix it. IE 60, or legal speed limit, to 20 back to 60 back to 20. That will bed and wear the pad surface. GShyneDM Posted May 7, 2005 Report Share Posted May 7, 2005 Its a known issue with the brakes on the S40Take it back to the dealer. They gave the s40 new brake pads and added a bunch of anti squeal grease to the rear pads only...it still squeaks... maybe they need to do the fronts too. Several people I have heard had this problem fixed by taking it to the dealer. once the brakes warm up a bit..they are great..
