Some New Pics Of The Manual Swap Process

Recommended Posts

Finally got the trans out. Thought I would share some pics. Also gonna finish up the mounting of the pedals today, then the interior will be done. Also gonna do the rear main seal while I'm down there.

Some Manual vs auto pics. And that Automatic is freakin heavy! To the point that with the torque convertor on, I cannot dead lift it. Manual on the other hand is very light. Can lift that with one hand (if I have a good grip) I would say 100+lb difference easy, and that's with the auto having no fluids in it.

Interior shot of the shifter in the console. I'm gonna need a new boot I think, as with the EST short shifter in there, it looks rediculously poofy.

That all said, my self set deadline (for a car meet) is to have it running and on the road by Sunday 1pm Should be pretty easy, as I don't have to work at all between now and then. And this swap has still been 100% solo with no help from others. :o

Those interested, look for a writeup (I'll try and make it as good as I can) on my site end of next week.

Awesome work you have done. Very much looking forward to the write-up I am. I drove stick car the other day. Reminds me how much more fun it is. If my auto tranny ever wears out again, I am so goin' for a manual swap.

Auto shifter and linkages were easy. take teh center console out and 4 bolts hold the shifter down. Probably one of the easiest parts of the conversion.

Grand total on parts was $2024 and that includes shipping

Here is a breakdown (all prices include shipping)

$1300 - m56h manual trans with SPEC stage III clutch kit

$189 - EST Short Shifter

$535 - Volvo Saab Parts manual swap kit (minus trans)

-------

$2024

Other things that I am replacing while doing this swap ( :P )

$80 - Drivers side ball joint/control arm

$200 - H&R Springs

$220 - 2 new Khumo MX tires

$74 - Rear Main seal replacement kit.

-------

$574

Nice job! I'm looking forwarrd to your writeup as I am going to have to fix my RMS soon, and it should be helpful. Be sure to mention what tools you think are necessary. Where did you get your RMS 'kit'? I thought the seal itself was $20.

Yup, got the spec clutch, prolly gonna try and put that in tomarrow or friday. Today is finishing up the interior, getting all the pedals mounted and unbolting the brake booster so I can wiggle the master cylinder for the clutch in there. Linkages and shifter/center console stuff is done already.

The RMS "kit" was just me calling up the dealer and they said it has all new bolts and stuff too in there. I guess I will see when I go down there.

Main tools you need to take the trans out. 14mm socket. 90% of everything out there is 14mm. and a T50 torx to get the torque convertor off.
