own6volvos Posted May 13, 2005 Report Share Posted May 13, 2005 Last weekend while down in St. Louis for my grandmothers 90'th I was cruising around in my mom's 855, and once the brakes start getting heavily used and hot, the backend vibrates like someone started pumping some 15's behind us I have heard and felt squeaks before from loose shim and whatnot, but nothing like this. The rotors are fairly new and in good shape.At any other time the brakes are fine. Its just after you have been stomping on them a lot doing down the hills and other places in 95F temps that I have felt this come on. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So far I have only done the fronts on this car. Can't blame this one on me yet I am putting metal master and new brake lines in the car one of these days. prasamin Posted May 14, 2005 Report Share Posted May 14, 2005 yeah, the shuddering is usually worn pads....DUMP THE METAL MASTERS!! go with OEM pads bud, you'll be much happier with them...my brakes are actually doing that same thing right now, just waiting on my Brembo/OEM pads kit.... KLS Posted May 14, 2005 Report Share Posted May 14, 2005 One way to diagnose the problem, if you're able, is to remove the rotors, sandpaper the surfaces well with medium emery cloth, and give it a good try. If the brake judder disappears for a while, you know that those pads are transfering material to the rotor surface. The probably reason is that the pad material is inadequate for heavy braking, melting, and depositing material on the rotor surface.
