Car Is Running Very Funny.

My car has really been acting up lately, mostly a heavy dive in RPM while braking to a stop, sometimes it kicks back up to normal RPM at idle so hard you feel it almost as if I was tapping the throttle. Sometimes it actually stalls while braking hard. It will also stall if you hold steady throttle while traveling in gear and then suddenly shift to neutral without letting off the throttle.

Anyhow, I finally triggered a CEL and it's a- 442: Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)

Any ideas would help.

I think the 442 is just a loose gas cap. As for your other issues you can probably clean your TB and see if it gets better. Otherwise, read up on the ETB issue.

Is that 442 code a volvo code? 1999s don't have only 3 numbers. Have you had your car read by VADIS?

I was getting the CEL for a loose gas cap back in 1999 when I first bought the car. Anyhow, we changed gas caps and still had the same problem, so, Volvo looked into it further and actually found something, too bad it was like 5 years ago and I can't remember how the problem was corrected. As for the TB it's fairly new with only about 15000 KM on it and I've seen inside a week ago and it's still clean.

I haven't had the codes read by VADIS yet, these are just generic codes I read from a handheld scanner.

I'd be willing to bet you need to clean your MAF, when they get dirty they cause all sorts of gremlins.

EDIT: My guess is the 442 is unrelated and just a coincidence.
