gaterp
I have a 96 850r with all the normal mods, IPD chip/exhaust, k&n, bilstiens, etc. I guess maybe pushing 275hp. I have only had the car for 3 months and not really pushed on it. If it ever occurred (he, he) how do you race the car. I know about the rolling start from you guys, but do you hit 3rd in auto or just punch it in drive.

StickThatClutch
Depends what speed you rolling start from. You definately want to try to eb in the lowest gear possible at the point of take off so to keep the boost up.

855R
The best thing you could do is to learn how to launch your car quickly. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a slower car win a race because the driver knew what they were doing, got the jump and the more powerful car could not catch up by the end of the race. I'm talking 1/4 mile, or a city block or two racing. All bets are off on a flying mile race.Your just going to have to practice taking off quickly without burning off your tires too much. Granted you want a little bit of tire spin, like say 10% or so but anything more than that your wasting time. If you go to the tracks and watch the fast street cars run you'll hear little squeaks from the tires. Not big ol loud screaches witch would indicate too much tire spin.I'm sure you know what a power brake launch is right?. Left foot on the brake right foot on the gas bringing up the RPM's ect. Just learn your cars sweet spot and mastering your technique you'll get off the line faster and into your power curve quicker, and into your boost quicker. I'd also leave the car in drive gear, maybe 3rd gear it just depends where your car likes to shift. At the 1/8 mile drags I leave the car in drive because I'm out the throttle befors it wants to shift to 4th. But at the 1/4 mile I leave the car in 3rd because it likes to shift to 4th just as I'm going through the lights and it hurts my time. If you know your going out racing or what ever letting out a few pounds of tire pressure can help the contact patch, but don't go crazy on a street tire because theres a point of dimishing returns and you may just peel the tire off the rim if you forget and start taking some turns. And that sucks big time. Don't ask me how I know OK.Hope that helps some, keep it safe and on the track if possible :)

merlin390
I know with my car if I am under 70 i will drop it to L and the tranny will shift out of 2nd at 75. Red line comes at 6200 so i shift to 3rd when the needle hits 5500ish that way the car still pulls to the redline but it doesnt hit the rev limiter. 3rd is good till about 115ish.if I want a good jump off the line I shift to L and give it gas (but not so fast that I break traction) and shift the same as above

merlin390
That is so bad on your car, besides what is the point? ←the power band really doesnt start till 2000 rpms. power brake the car it allows the engine to already be in the power band thus making acceleration quicker (turbo is spooled up just about) and the first 60ft will make or break your 1/4 mile times
