teklein
Ok, im 17, and I just bought a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT. I like te car alot, but I want to put my head unit in it, its an Alpine 7875 with the V-Drive 60Wx4 and all the good stuff. I have a set of Alpine 6.5in components, but they dont fit unless I use kick panels and my car is a 5 speed so that kills that idea Im going to get the Metra Turbo Pocket tommorrow, and then hunt down the car harness in case I sell the car and I want to switch back to stock radio. Now, Circuit City told me that there was an internal amp in the car and I would have to find it and bypass it. I just read on here in the Audio section that 1993 850s did NOT have an internal amp. So now I have questions:Im going to get a harness for the car (any suggestions, the one on crutchfield only has outputs for four speakers F and R).Number 1 question: Does my car have an amp?Now If it DOES have an amp:-Where do I find it?-How do I bypass it (what wires do I connect to what wires)If it does NOT have an amp:-If I hook up my Alpine CD player with a harness will sound come out? Thanks!Tim Klein
AnthonyR
99% sure your car does not have an amp. If it did it would be directly to the right of the gas pedal behind the carpet there. Easiest way to tell, pull the radio out and if there is something plugged into the amp din socket, you have an amp.The metra kit is like 9222 or something like that. Of course it will only have the 4 channels, that's all any car does, Volvo just parrellels them in the wiring to the speaker. So they should all still work.Oh, and kicks aren't a problem with the 5speed. I have mongo huge kicks (7", 4", and 1" tweet all in a giant kick) and there is still plenty of clearance.BTW alpine is good stuff. I have a 9815 in mine :)
teklein
Oh ok, cool, thanks for the info I almost bought the 9815 but then my friend sold me his 7875. It was used for a month then stored for 1-2yrs when I took it off his hands for 150 We put my old 9825 in my lil brothers truck. I love Alpine, the quality is great and I have several friends that use Alpine and it sounds amazing.I actually just looked up part numbers and here they are:Metra 850 Turbo Pocket: 98-9999Metra Wiring Harness: 70-9220Where did you get your kicks from?I really dont want to part with my 6.5s and have to get 5.25s, because where the speakers are located arent that good for SQ anyway. Also, I just looked and nothings plugged into the AMP socket Thanks for your help! AnthonyR
The moderator of this forum (Bing_0) made them for me (he owns his own custom audio shop) although I don't know if he builds kicks anymore (would need a car to do it as his car already has everything in it) And especially with you only have a 2piece component set, you should be more than fine, I'll take some pics tonight of the clearance with the kicks and clutch pedal. teklein
*Looks at the sheet of MDF in his bedroom*Maybe Ill try to build a set myself... Im thinking the woofers in the floor, and the tweets in factory location?Pics of the clearance would be great! Thanks, Tim

That way you don't have to hide the crossovers and the tweeters will be pointed where you want them and not shooting off into nowhereville like the stock ones. teklein
I thought I had a component set...Tweeters, crossovers, and woofers...Unless you mean coaxials with the tweet in middle of woofer?

teklein
I just got finished putting my CDA-7875 in and it sounds amazing, even with the stock speakers, huge difference over stock!Cant wait for Alpine speakers though...Only thing is that my radio is just sitting in there... because I cant find the DIN cage at all O well, ill take it off my brothers Alpine tommorrow when he puts his stock deck back in his truck because hes selling it.Anyone know where I can get one of these cages? Anyone have one lying around that they wanna sell? Or anyone know someone in an audio shop Also, my rear (deck) speakers dont even work... both of them...I wonder why... I dont really need them because theyd probably mess up the sound anyway...
