mikie
So I had an oil leaking coming from the front seal, it turned out to be a loose screw... But ever since I got that fixed I'm getting a lot of vibrations at idle. I don't see how this can correlate, does it? I noticed that oil was toped off (oil looks darker)... what if they toped off with non synthetic instead of synthetic which is what I'm using, can this cause a problem? Thanks,Mike
MrWinkey
Most synthetics are compatable with conventional oil

BlueTank
Vibration at idle or low idle might point to cleaning the throttle body. All the manufacturer websites indicate you can mix and match synthetics and dino-oil.

Does it vibrate the same in neutral as in drive? Is it a steady vibration or does it come and go while idling?
mikie
In neutral there are no vibrations. My throttle body is clean. I had no vibrations until I got the car back from the dealer to fix the loose screw on the cam shaft. It's a pretty steady vibrations which seems to go through the entire car and kind of hurts your ears. Sometimes it's stronger then other times though but when its there it's fairly linear, it doesn't fluctuate.I'm figuring it could just be some of my engine mounts (lower ones). And it decided to happen as soon as it left the dealer just to comfuse me.
jbuck
No vibrations in neutral, I'd definitely check your engine mounts. My father inlaw's old 740 shakes like crazy when in drive, but idles quietly in neutral. Its got 350K miles on it and the engine is flopping around so I'm fairly certain the mounts are gone. He's determined to drive it "to the end" in its current condition. <_<
jleilich
Synthetic oil is darker than Dino oil.. And .. it gets even darker faster because it gathers up all the nastys in your motor.
