Taking The Muffler Off

Recommended Posts

If got a 2000 S80 2.9, what if I just took my muffler off and put a straight pipe to in it's place? Would my car sound really loud? A good loud or bad loud? Right now it's essentially a weak bulding roarish whine, the usual. Would this mess with performance, gas mileage, and what would the sound change too? And is it LEGAL?

it will give you 20-24 hp and gas mileage will increase up to 60+ mpg, and the car will sound like muscle car, and you will gain 3-3.5 seconds in 1/4 mile time.

rofl. I think those are conservative estimates.

In all seriousness it will make your car quite loud, I have it on my S70 T5 and :o. It sounds amazing and I get plenty of compliments and "that doesn't sound like any Volvo I've ever heard"s. There will be a slight performance gain because of less restriction on the exhaust flow, as for mileage I'm not sure. Uh, and don't let the huge gunfire pop under you freak you out. That's just you backfiring (slight second neon lights under your car !!!) lol.

i did the same thing to my 01' S60. had Midas do it for about $70 and got a chrome tip for it. sounds great. doesn't sound very ricey. it has a pretty noticable tone inside the car when your driving in town but its not that bad on the highway. i think i picked up a couple of horses but not alot. as for mpg i dont know. a K&N filter is the way to go for gas mileage. i get 30MPG! anyway i sould suggest you go on and take it off.
