T5BRICK
i bet if that outer ring were chromed like the OEM ones, it would be tough to tell it wasn't original.
Slater
i bet if that outer ring were chromed like the OEM ones, it would be tough to tell it wasn't original.←That's what I'm going to do to mine. In fact, I may have all of them chrome plated that way they will be unique to QuickBrick only. You're right in that onc ethe trim is chrome plated and the slash installed, it would look pretty darn OEM. Here's a comparison with an XC90 grille - its almost the same size eggcrates:by the way, I tried to mofidy an XC90 grille to fit an 850 trim. It cost me $140 and the project failed horribly. I finally gave up and that's when I decided to go for these aftermarket units.
T5BRICK
in the pics it looks like a glossy plastic. hopefully that is just the pics.

The 2 pics I've seen are glossy, but they are both prototype pics and I'm sure the grille was painted with spray paint.Since the produrction version is ABS plastic, I'm sure the color is molded in meaning they will look flat like every other ABS plastic part on the planet. beachnut
And solid black ABS means no paint chipping This is one of those grilles I think that you either love or hate. Personally I love it, but only as long as the slash is on it and it looks close to oem. Slater- how are you proposing to get the outer ring chromed? Daniel said he was not going to do this, but rather the outer ring would be a "shiny" black.
T5BRICK
hopefully. glossy plastic would look weird.←that was me.i'm definatly in for a chromed outer ring. that would make it look MUCH more OEM.
exexpat
I know the OEM looks better than these aftermarket eggcrate grilles, but this is the only alternative for 850 owners besides the mesh style grilles that IPD and others sell.←There are infinite alternatives, just few that "bolt right up"

T5BRICK
OK, care to share?←i think he is saying that you can put any grille on the car if you are creative, have the tools to make it fit and have enough money. ;)
Slater
i think he is saying that you can put any grille on the car if you are creative, have the tools to make it fit and have enough money. ←Yeah, definitely. You can convert you car to a full Lambo with enough money and bondo. The problem is trying to do what I did. The XC90 grille is as about as close as you can get to fitting the 850 and looking OEM. It was soooo close. But there was ever so slight a curve in the grille as opposed to the peerfectly flat grille of the 850, and the other problem was trying to get your custom hacked grille to fit into the 850 chrome trim ring and still look good at under twenty feet. It was very hard to fit the 2 pieces together with the right epoxy and tiny wire ties. In the end, it just looked, well, like you tried to modify a grille from another car into yours. Looked like a junkyard frankenstein special. If you are looking for a 100% custom grille that no one else has, I'm sure you can mod any grille to work on an 850. If you want an OEM-looking eggcrate grille - Volvos trademark grille they have used for 20 years, then this 100% bolt on eggcrate grille is your only option. Well, now you have a chance to own the grille that Volvo SHOULD HAVE made.- Slater
beachnut
... and the chrome outer?
T5BRICK
well, from the pics of the prototype, it looks like the glossy black outer ring is seperate. so it should be possable to remvoe and chrome it.
beachnut
I know but Slater skipped over my question, or he's ignoring me He said he was thinking about getting the outer ring chromed and I was wondering how he was going to do that ... is Radicast going to do it or him? Daniel (from Radicast) told me he didn't (or couldn't) want to do it. Like I said before I know what this grill consists of since I've been talking to Daniel about it for quite a while, and so has a well-known vendor here .. we're not feeling the love from Mr. Daniel Oh well, I don't care how they get here or who sells them, I just want one :)
Patrick.
I may be down for one once I see the finished product on a car. I think the idea is sick and I have been waiting for a grille like this to come full-circle for a while. Slater PWNZ U!!!!
