Rough Shifting, No Codes

I took my car to a local, reputable volvo specialist for rough shifting issues.

The car shifts badly in slow traffic, especially downshifting into first, but does fine when on the highway or at WOT.

The mechanic said there were not any transmission fault codes, and suggested that maybe one of the speed sensors was the culprit.

He suggested that I take it to a tranny specialist, such as AAMCO or the Volvo dealership to have a more in depth diagnostic done.

My impression is that the tranny itself is fine, but something controlling the shifting of the tranny is amiss.

I am looking for any thoughts on the issue.

Thanks.

I'm guessing that it's a 2000 V70 by your sig. ..How many miles? I would flush the unit and go from there(synthetic only that year) If it was a solenoid or any other malfunction it sould set a code. Volvo is probably the only one that can access trans codes with a VST but there are other scanners out there that can access them . I use AST don't know what your local shop has?

Thanks for the response.

The Volvo specialist referred me to AAMCO.

AAMCO did not find anything wrong with the tramsission.

They told me that after some research they found that there is a Volvo tranny software update that I need, #107 I think they said. If the problem persists after that, then they will look deeper.

Volvo is going to do the update this coming Tuesday to the tune of about $130.

Not sure if this is going to affect the Upsolute programming, but if it does I can have the Upsolute chip re-programmed for free (part of the Upsolute deal)

What you described about bad shifts in slow traffic sounds familiar. We have a 2001 V70XC and it doesn't happen much, but it does happen some. It seems to be when we are traveling very slow - starting at a stop light in traffic, parking lot, etc.. It seems to happen when it almost feels you are coasting slowly - if that makes sense or when you first, but barely, press the pedal.

We had our valve body replaced under warranty which made some shifting issues go away, but this issue has remained to occur.

Were you able to get your issues resolved?
