maiku
i was thinking about getting the aux input from blitzsafe, but i don't have that money for that type of thing right nowhowever, i wanted to see if anyone knew which has the better sound quality. an Fm modulator or a cassette adapter?i personally would want to get the fm modulator because it looks nicer not to have a wire dangling out of the tape deck. but is FM lower quality than a tape? matt1122
FM Modulation is better, particularly if you hook up the input directly to the antenna. I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but still am not sure exactly what I need (best buy guys suck).

AnthonyR
In all honesty the static isn't coming from it not being gold plated. Gold actually conducts electricity (ie: signal) alot poorer than something like copper. They just use gold so it doesn't corrode. On the static. Can you change the modulation frequency? Some stock decks have problems with tuning to such a low frequency, also there might be a normal radio station on it that may be interfering. If the static changes with the plug, then the contacts could be getting corroded or just plain bad which happens with normal use. Also, what modulator did you end up with? Burgundy_850
i've tried both the casette input and a radio fm transmitter from radio shack. i could never get the signal strong or clear enough (compared to mainstream fm broadcasts), and the tape method sounds like crap. so i just screwed both of those and went with burned cds - can't beat the sound quality of that

matt1122
I may do that mod this weekend so I can hook up my MP3 cd player. What did you need, just the modulator piece? The guy at best buy BSed me about needing a bunch of adapters and crap to fit it to the Volvo antenna. I'm not sure they have any clue what they are talking about. Should have asked again today. AnthonyR
It's just the newer Volvo's that need an antenna adapter, your 850 is the standard style.
