Not a good experience with this dealer/service department.

I did the earlybird drop-off on a Wednesday night for the 120,000 mile service + the fuel tank recall. I didn't hear from them Thursday morning so I called 10:30-11 am to see whats going on. The service counter says that they got my car and they have started working on it. They'll call me with any updates. By 3 pm I haven't received a call so I call them to see whats up. Turns out that they had been "trying to get in touch with me all day." Either they had the wrong number in the computer or I wrote it down incorrectly. Fair enough, but why when I called did they not mention this?!? They'll try to get to the car Thursday but most likely it won't be done until Friday.

I pick the car up Friday. $600 for a 120,000 mile service (yikes!). They also recommend replacing the rear brake pads and rotors for another $450. Too much $$ in one trip, says me. Saturday am my wife is driving the car and the coolant light goes on! I'm bummed - they had my car for 2 whole days and the coolant light goes on - which should have been serviced! Monday at 7 am I am there when the service department opens because I'm pretty po'd. In all fairness they moved me to the front of the line and took care of it in about 5 minutes - with lots of apologies. They told me that it is standard practice to let the coolant line "burp" the air bubble out and then they top it off. The tech didn't do it obviously - which leads me to wonder what other things he forgot to do for my $600???

Long story longer, I took the car to my independant Volvo service guy and I told him to check out the brakes. I made no mention that I had just taken the car in to the dealer. He told me that the brakes were low. I asked him about the rotors and he said they were fine. He'll do the job for $177. The dealer was going to charge me $270 more for something I didn't need!!! Grrrr......

Unless I'm stuck I don't plan on returning to Carlsbad Volvo. It comes down to trust really...

Why do you service your Volvo at the dealership when you work with an independent? Do you have engine work at the dealership and then have non-motor work with an independent? Where is the independent shop that services Volvos?
