Ok, Let's Try To Simplify This

according to vadis even in the basic alarm you're supposed to have a visual signal.

examing the relays under relay 211 there are an R and an L, these are voltage outputs to both the left and right side of the blinkers, my guess is you would just swap a newer relay in which you could probably order from volvo.  I did see programming schematics for the Guard Alarm I using some sort of device, i wonder if you can do the same thing for the basic Guard Alarm ?

Well, the stuff in VADIS I saw didn't even claim that the basic system was a Guard Alarm. They list the 3 possible options - Standard, Guard Alarm I, and Guard Alarm II. There was explicit programming instructions for Guard Alarm I and II, but absolutely nothing about programming the Standard "alarm" if you could call it that.

Maybe youc an swap relays - if so that would rock.

hmm looks like i may be able to do one better.. my father's 96 850 appears to have a GUARD alarm, he has the stickets on the doors and the key FOB acts slightly different, one push just unlocks the drivers door, two pushes unlocks them all. im gonna locate the module this weekend and see if it is infact one of the other alarms. will a standard FOB work on a GUARD alarm'ed car ?

That's just the standard two-stage locking alarm.

any one try a relay and and a aftermarket siren? the have a soft chirp on them, if i was going to try it i would wire a relay so that when the car is on the relay is bypassed and doesnt trip the siren

pin 85 constant ground

pin 86 switched power like accessory (something that is active when the cars on

pin 30 to a wire that is energized when the lights blink

pin 87a to the siren positive input

for those willing people, this part might help

http://www.bmwdiy.info/alarm-siren/index.html

explains which part you need for the bmw beep (i personally like the wolf siren)

The beeper from a Toyota (at least a Camry) sounds like that second one. You could probably get one from a boneyard way cheaper and easier than from a BMW.

Hey TURBOBRICK, I have a 96 855R Still can't believe i finally have 1...Anyway it came with 2 remotes that have no Clue!!! They don't do Jack. It came with the Vertical Button

remotes with 2 rectangular buttons. 1 says lock the other says Unlock. What kind does your fathers have? I tried the programming thing but it didn't work. Is the programming for a 96 ther same as a 94 with the ign Key on off deal?

thanks

my dad's is just a basic two button remote, i programmed both his and mine the same way, by putting the key in the ignition and moving it 5 times or something like that, you can look up the procedure online.

Ok..so are his buttons rectangular with the top button larger than the bottom? Or are the buttons Side by side little oval or round buttons? I have the ones with the rectangular buttons.....I wanna make sure they are the right ones before I go troubleshooting RF signals...

pretty sure its IR, or my RF just freaking blows in terms of reception.. only line of sight mostly.

and its the little oval buttons side by side

Ok Thanks...Thats what I thought. I thought think the rectangular button remotes work on 960's etc.....

I will try the remotes from my 94 855
