Ok, Let's Try To Simplify This

Finally to get to the bottom of this, the only difference I can see in the Mitchell Repair diagram of a 95 850 (base Anti-theft circuit) and a 96 850 with Guard Alarm II is the Alarm Relay (Solid State). I am not an expert though.

Does this mean, as one member suggested, that if we install the Alarm Relay G. A. II (96 models) in the 95 we will get visual signals? where is the Central Electrical Unit? Under the driver kick panel?

okay the only diffrence between the '96 standerd:

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/WD123/3911202...1202_us_171.pdf

and 2 stage locking:

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/WD123/3911202...1202_us_173.pdf

is an extra part, "2/105", which is "two stage locking relay", outlined in the top left of:

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/WD123/3911202...1202_us_174.pdf

if you replaced your relay with this relay, you would probably have 2 stage locking. if the relay is still present on the other system, it is probably a blank. that is just my 2 cents

Thanks Jacob. I actually wanted the difference between the 95 and 96 models.

Do you have the name of all the relays (which is what) on the last picture?

the 95 one stage:

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/wd123/3907202...7202_us_161.pdf

and 96 one stage:

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/wd123/3911202...1202_us_169.pdf

are the same. the diffrence is the 96 one stage (above) vs the 96 two stage (below):

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/wd123/3911202...1202_us_173.pdf

where there is that extra relay.

here is the list of all the relays:

Hope this helps! you can access all of these PDFs on:

And what does 2-stage locking do? Give you the blinky blinky?

locks the driver then the passanger doors with click one vs click two

Hmm, I like single stage locking then. My 850 locks ALL doors when I lock the lock. My wife's 01 V70 only locks the driver's door when you lock the lock. Very annoying.

press it again, and it should lock them all.. its kind of handy but i honestly dont see the point..

its more of the unlocking feature i guess, as one button pressed and only the drivers door unlocks which is sort of nice.

Two stage locking was designed for personal safety. (This appeals to women more than men)When you walk to your car late at night and maybe in not so great lighting. When you have one stage locking, you unlock all the doors and some one can get into your car through one of other unlocked doors and for instant point a gun to your head or something. With two stage locking, you only open the driver door, so the rest of the doors stay locked and if someone wants to get into the car, they can only do it through the driver door and if you that happen, you can get away or panic.

So if I swap out the relay, then what is the part number for two stage locking relay? I'm a bit confused about the pdf, for what year it is. by the way: Its a large relay (took a peak today)!
