Joe_m
I sold my S70 last week because I needed to free up some money. I am going back to school for a second career. But thanks to you guys, I am addicted to Volvos. So now I am looking for another front-driver-- hopefully in the $4K range. Aside from the normal stuff (rust-free, good maintenance records, pretty color), what should I look for? How should I judge the condition of the Turbo (my last Volvo was NA)? How do the pre-00's compare with respect to maintenance and reliability?Would I get a better deal if I wait until fall?I am not above being yelled at about not doing a thorough enough search of the board first as long as you point me at what I missed! :D

PullMyFinger
Hey, high mileage beat up 850s are really fun to modify and play with.Got mine on ebay for....wait for it...you guessed it...4 GRAND!It has a rough interior and exterior which is just fine with me (i have kids), its the color I wanted inside and out which is kinda hard to find when you're really price range limited, it was mechanically sound and unmodified with no leaks and it has a trailor hitch....BITCHIN! so, it just depends on what you're afterYou could save up and get something "pretty" if you like :)

However.. miles brings up a good point, if you know what you want, and how to look for it, there are deals to be had.
Joe_m
I don't mind if it is not the prettiest. And no, mods are not in my future short-term. I DO want mechanically sound. I would actually not mind another NA. It had enough power to get out of its own way and little enough to keep me out of trouble-- mostly. I have a bike for my adrenaline fix.
