Air Intake Mod,

Recommended Posts

Today i got really bored and wanted to fit a cold air feed on a budget,

So here goes the story which is getting ominous now of myself going overboard on modifying the car,Can you over do the mod itself i ask?

3metre 100mm Aluminium semi rigid ducting @ £4.50 and reducer(not used)from local DIY B&Q store,

Engine bay stripped down, Airbox, Battery & tray Horns removed,

500954_91_full.jpg

I used a third of the 3m ducting, It is very rigid and can be manipulated into shape,

500954_92_full.jpg

Hose stretched into shape,

Front dam with intake pipe in place,

Airbox drilled and inplace,

Front Grille inplace and view of intake ducting,Total cost of this part of job £1.50,

Now OTT modding,

Air Intake 2,

Standard intake hole,

Hole dremeled out,

500954_99_full.jpg

100mm hose inserted,

Tomorrows job sealing hose in & cutting front of pipe through the slam panel,

Plus i took a inverter back to Halfords Parts store i bought about a month ago and changed it plus £20 for a new set of leads :shhh: Some lady doesn't know yet, Even though she came out and asked what i was doing. Opps.

I didn't drill the holes the previous owner did, That's why i ran the first intake pipe up under the battery tray so the cold air will feed into that area, Then i thought sod it replace the standard intake with the 100mm hose,

It does look crap with those holes, But they cannot be seen when everything is in place, :o

Most ghetto but works probably extremely well. Paint the hose black and no one will be the wiser.

Good job.

What he said. Inspires me to actually finish my intake, too. :)

Let me get this straight. You're using the stock air box, with $10 worth of supplies, and a drill. And you think that this will perform better than the original design? It stands to reason that Volvo started with at least $30, and injection molding facilities.
