Air Intake Mod,

Recommended Posts

That is one mean looking Black T5 :) ,

If you compare the standard intake hose you will see how small it is, I have now 2 100mm hoses, More cold air = more power,

I am in the Uk peeps so sending a airbox would be too expensive many thanks for the offer, It is really appreciated,

A lot of people drill their boxes in this country, More to do with induction noise than more air, But if you drill it wrong you will have a lot of hot air going down your intake,

Second stage of the now completed,

Stayed up last night untill 3 dremmelling away lol,and using silicone to secure the hose,

Anyway all is in place now, Haven't taken her out yet will do that about 1pm,

New pics,

Standard slam panel,

New hole starting to be cut out, notice how much smaller the standard orifice is,

New orifice completely cut out, I could've gone a bit more, But didn't want to lose the strength in my slam panel,

Close up of the new gap far bigger than the standard one,

Top view of new intake pipe, Now i have 2 100mm intakes,Probably won't do anything anyway, But it is so nice to be different and have lots of time on my hands lol,

nice job. i think your setup will work. don't know how much difference it will really make but hopefully it'll be worth it.

i've done something like that on my old car. one thing you (might not have) didn't think of is that the pipe is a very VERY thin piece of aluminum and i'll rust in coupla months and will crack. perhaps you can redo this setup w/ a more durable hose or pvc pipe?

anyway, good job.

Hey guys, give SIAMBLUE a break. :D He's just trying to get a few more HP with the least amount of money. What's wrong with that! I for one would never pay $200+ for a 'cold air intake' system.

SIAMBLUE, if you have a K&N, I think it'll give you some extra HP, or at least a nice roaring sound. :P I once had an Alfa 164 3.0V6 with a panel K&N and cat-back system. I cut the airbox opening a bit bigger (thought about drilling holes too but the Alfa airbox is made of metal). I took it on a track. It sounded sooo awesome. After that run, someone came up to me and asked if I had put a V8 in my Alfa. He said it sounded like a Ferrari :P I missed my Alfa :(

Let me get this straight. You're using the stock air box, with $10 worth of supplies, and a drill. And you think that this will perform better than the original design? It stands to reason that Volvo started with at least $30, and injection molding facilities.

This is the exact same was MTE does it's own airbox mod on the S60R and V70R's

Not exactly the same. That system is more or less sealed. It doesn't just have a bunch of little holes in the bottom of the air box.

If you read his posts you should have seen that the previous owner drilled those holes and have nothing to do with what he has done.

So the question is, or solution...

Run some hard pipe down there instead and put the cone filter on the end of it, and it would be like a true CAI modification.

Yes so he can drench his filter in water when it rains.

Well I guess that every Honda, and other car that has a CAI down near the front fender gets soaked with water then, is that right?

No it isn't. My friends 2000 Cougar V6 has a CAI all the way down to the front fender. Oh wait and he has no problems with water at all.

So yeah I think it could work for our cars as well.

I dont see why it wont work... I mean in the water you shgouldn't be hammergin it anyway.

I think it is a good idea, and I want to do something very much like it, cept just put a whole in the front of the box, and run the tube down for some more air.
