2000 S80 Air Filter Housing Re-installation...

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

We have a 2000 S80 T-6.

I'm trying to determine if I've properly re-installed the plastic housing that covers the air filter in the engine compartment.

I just replaced the air filter and noticed that when I was putting the plastic housing back on, that the middle tab in the back doesn't want to slide back in to the center hole. Both of the other tabs slide right in (the one to the left and the one to the right of the center tab). I also noticed that the center tab is different than the other two and that the center hole is not a totally clean opening like the other two. There are two little plastic notches hanging down which the other two holes don't have.

With all three clips snapped shut, I can see the lip of the filter when looking down from above on the back side but everything seems to fit tight. Not sure what to make of this. I also see that the filter housing itself is slightly bowed away from the middle on the back side where the tabs are. Perhaps this is just how this housing is and I just didn't notice it when I changed the filter last time.

For kicks, I even removed the air filter and tried to install the plastic housing but I still couldn't get the center tab to go into the center hole.

Any other S80 owners who could chime in would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

Jethro

I forget which side the little slant cut on the top faces I think to the pass. side door?...but if you have it in backwards the filter door would have to be forced on. the slant cut goes towards the top whether it sits to the left or right?..I forget I just do it?

Hi There....I'm not clear on what you're saying in your reply below in regards to slant and backwards. Since I didn't disconnect anything when I removed the filter cover to replace the filter, I'm positive nothing is on backwards.

The heat of the engine compartment deforms the top of the air filter and the middle tab will not get in its place anymore.

I bent that section with a heat gun and I was able to assemble it a couple of times and then it warped again.

Not a permanent solution.

Oh GEEZE!!!! I'm very sorry I was talking about the cabin air filter not the engine air filter! Guess I need to go back too school to learn how to read properly! :) The air filter housing can be a bit difficult to get back in line as you stated but it sounds as if your fine ;)
