BPT850T
just a note....a DL doesn't count as proof of citizenship...at least for canadians....because even a visa student can acquire a DL....so best not to count DL as a proof. So when's the trip? Maybe I'll try to host a BBQ hehe....if work schedule permits....

Maybe I'll try to host a BBQ hehe....if work schedule permits....←There will be a difference between the licenses. Regardless, the DL alone isn't enough. Before 9/11, both crossings were the same. I used to cross the border a lot in the 90s, and I don't ever remember being asked for ID. The only time I was ever hassaled was after dropping my parents off in Vancouver for an Alaska cruise and driving their minivan back home. Single guy in minivan is a red flag. As long as you remained calm and answer their questions, they wouldn't stop you.I suggest you leave all weapons in the US before crossing. It will save you problems if either country decides to search the vehicle. :)
Guest DougK
Don't forget to look frightened when crossing back into the US and mouth "He's kidnapped me' while pointing at Doug. ← x1000000Is a photocopy of my birth certificate good enough or do I need the original? Johann
[rant]Really amazing...Each an every non US citizen needs to comply with who knows what kind of modern technology like bio scan s-hit to get in to the US while US folks only need some lame birth certificate..I have nothing against you Doug, really (trust me ) but I'm almost at a point where I would say go with the whole circus to get the proper paper work. Even then I hope the Candadians will make your border passing experience one to remember. The reason I didn't visit the states anymore after 9/11 is the total bull list of requirements one has to comply with to enter the states. Even then there is a chance to be refused to enter the states while at the border. Planes can be refuses while already flying close to US territory because some guy who happens to have an Azian Arabic name is considered to be a suspicious person....So, word of advice, before bording in Europe make sure no Arabian resembling person is bording the plane.. Had to get this off my chest [/rant]
Che'_Moderator
I suggest you leave all weapons in the US before crossing. It will save you problems if either country decides to search the vehicle. ←Depending on what your doing up there I suggest the opposite. Well I always suggest the opposite but if your going camping or anything take a rifle. Unloaded ammo locked is fine at the boarder. Despite what people say you can cross with pistol but filling out ATTs when you declare is a PITA. If your going with a pistol do what everyone else does. Tape it to the bottom of the car ;)

javadoc
This thread is titled wrong. Getting to Canada is easy. Getting back is the hard part. ←^^^ The Truth! If you have the time, the best thing to do is have a valid passport, really. My mother-in-law just went up to Victoria last week from Portland and they actually only looked at her valid DL on each crossing, but they'd been warned that soon they'd be requesting passports. So, if you read between the lines there, my plans to get my mother-in-law stranded at the border were foiled, yet again. So, word of advice, before bording in Europe make sure no Arabian resembling person is bording the plane..

[/rant]←What if there is an "Arabian" on the plane then what. Also seeing how some "Arabian" people also look like mediterranean (Greek and Spanish), are you jumping ship every time you see a Greek or Spaniard? When I sit on a plane I don't even get up to use the bathroom, just in case people with that kind of attitude think something stupid of me (Even though when I fly I am in a full business suit). And I am not even "Arabian"
