slarti
last November I changed my suspension with the above mentioned parts. About 6 weeks ago, both of my new spring seats (from FCP groton) failed and now I have 2 little dents in my hood from where my strut shafts hit it. Originally, had forgotten to put in the bump stops. I figued that the lack of bump stops allowed to much travel for the strut causing excess force on the spring seat. I have now replaced the spring seats with factory parts along with new bump stops and the bump stop carrier plates.yesterday, I discovered that my drivers side rear mount has failed in a similar way. I didnt originally replace the rear mounts because FCP and dealer both told me that there was a special mount for the R models. I had planned on taking the old mount to the dealer to find a replacement, however I ended up doing the work on a weekend and my friend that is a mechanic inspected them and told me they were fine. I believe I have the rear bump stops. So is there any reason the rear mounts would fail other than age? Ive got about 102K miles on the car.Any advice would be helpful. 550
chris... I have the same thing happening to me.I just got kw's on (have had for 3 days) yesterday i notice the poking spring seat is broken. And I have a dent in my hood I have also been told that they do fail due to age and that they are (or shoudl be ) a general maintenance item.I ordered a replacement from fcpgroton, should be here hopefully soon. I will let you know how it goes.On another note...We got to do a meet soon, you thinking about the ntl meet at all?
slarti
Im still up in the air on the ntl meet, but down for a local meet soon.My buddy just picked up the rear mounts on Saturday for me, so hopefully some time this week I can get that replaced.I get that they get old but I did replace my fronts when I did the suspension the first time. George @ ViVA
Sorry to hear about your mount failures.I am curious, are you guys getting OEM Volvo mounts when buying from FCP, or is it the Scan tech replacements?
slarti
I thought they were OEM, but just to be sure my new replacements were bought at a dealer. (My buddy works at a MB dealership so he gets the wholesale price from other dealers.)
StickThatClutch
The older mount designs and the newer ones are a bit different. I wonder if they redesigned them because they are prone to failure.
AnthonyR
Are there any polyurathane spring mounts available? Cause these things fail almost as often as the end links.
PyROZen
that sucks man, i had a spring seat break in my last car and it caused a huge dimple in the hood. Looked like a backwards bullet hole did you exprience and creaking/rattling before they went? I only ask because i had bilstien HDs put on and my front passenger side makes a hellacious amount of noise on bumpy pavement.
slarti
I had a little creaking but it was already too late for once side and the other side gave out in my garage while I waited for the parts.
prasamin
wow, now i'm worried, i just started having a funny sound on my front drivers side...right when i start to hit a bump, i hear a thump like something is loose, but everything is bolted to torque! i hope my mounts don't come through my hood! bobcat
so when the mount failed, did the washer and the bump stop go through the mount? looking at other mounts that fail, it seems to be the metal pipe in the middle of the mount seperates from the rest of the mount. there doesnt seem to be enough room for the washer and bump stop to get through.i know you left the bumps stops off originally, but i can see how it would fail again. unless the shaft on the shock slid through the bump stop.
