Driver Master Window Controls Switch?

My switch is tempermental- sometimes works and other times doesn't. My undertsanding is these switches are problematic- as opposed to the window regulators themselves. Any kind hearted souls able to confirm this?

As a side note, after starting, a small wisp of electrical smoke (preceded by dimmed lights for approx. 1 sec.) appeared somewhere near 9 o'clock on the steering wheel. I couldn't tell the source.

And another question for the structual engineer types- the drivers seat pivots slightly when accelerating from a dead stop. A resulting "bump" or "knock" is heard near the base of the seat. I can re-create the knock by rocking the seat back with my hand when parked. I've checked all anchors/bolts I can access & they're all tight. Any ideas? Thanks- responses are appreciated.

The window switches are a common failure item on the Volvo.l WHat kind do you have? The rocking seat can be corrected by installing a shock thats made to stop the knock. It's expensive, don't remember how much but I know it's a bunch.

Thanks for your response. I had the switch replaced today ('99 S70) and it's working fine now. Having a shock installed for the drivers seat sounds like a design defect to me?! Depending on cost (do you remember a ballpark price- are we talking $200?- for the shock?) I may have to be resigned to rocking for awhile. Otherwise, after getting rid of my BMW 740iL, I'm impressed with the S70, and look forward to the same kind of reliability I enjoyed with my '68 144 and '70 244.
