I Found One To Buy... But I Have To Move Fast

So I found a base (NA) 1998 S70 with 40K miles at a dealership with the normal options (leather, power windows). Since it just came in, they said they could do $8500 for a non-prepped, non-warranteed car.

How does that sound?

What should I look for?

At 40 miles, would there even have been any real maintenance issues to look for?

I'd say no, don't do it.

Reasons:

-you could find a T-5 w/ a few more miles for like a grand more

-value of the car in question w/ no warranty and no maintenance/prepping is only like 7500

-you'll kick yourself later down the road for not buying a turbo

Don't rush it, you should be in charge when you're spending ANY amount of money, so take your time, and make a wise decision.

I appreciate the input. I generally feel more comfortable buying from a private owner. I just couldn't resist the mileage.

You guys crack me up! I had a 2000 NA that I really liked. Not a rocket, but a nice car nonetheless.

The rush is sort of 'self-inflicted'. I will be leaving my job to go back to school soon. I am just trying to get all of my ducks in a row. There is no other reason for me to jump on a car now as opposed to waiting until later in the fall.

If anyone has any more input, please share! Especially about the 1998 in particular!

I have a 98 s70 n/a and i have had no major probs with it. I got the car with new brakes and rotors at 62k miles for 8 grand. The car had a limited warantee and was in perfect condition. The 98's also dont have the dreaded ETM problems which is why i would say this is a good buy. Aside from the fact that its not a turbo, it is a nice car and can still be modded. Ontop of that, insurance will not be as expensive because this car is n/a... I test drove an 850R i was looking into buying 2 days ago and it was poking fast as hell compared to my naturally aspirated engine. However, i just felt like the s70's interior was far superior to that of the 850R. I decided that i would keep my s70 n/a and continue the plans i have with it. In the future though i would definetally get the T5-(possibly M) version of the s70. However, if the n/a and or turbo issues are of no concern to you, then i say YAY. Go get that s70, its a great car and will serve you well.

Thank you all for listening to my n/a thoughts!

So it looks like I'm going to let this one go. :( It may be a great car, but I just don't deal well with dealers. I understand they have to make money, but the attitude, the fees and the annoyance of dealing with a salesman whose sole purpose is to suck more cash out of me (and is a professional at it!) bothers me.

I have to say I'm a little bummed. I kind of like the idea of a low mileage NA. To think my mother had the gall to ask why I wanted another Volvo when I just sold one! :o

Yeah, dealers can be annoying sometimes. I got mine from a dealer and I am sure I paid more than I should have. I purchased a warranty for the car, and have regretted it since. Never used it. The price of the car wasn't bad since I got some internet deal on it, just the extra stuff they like to tack on.
