The Poi
I paddle-shifted my 960!cross-post from tbricks!Come on out of there....Yahtzee!And the camera is poo. I'll try to get some better pics with some sunlight, including some nice lens flare of them brushed aluminum paddles. Still need a cover for the mechanism. I got a plastic "cap" that'll fit, but I think a nice leather wrap of the whole column would do it nicely. The 100 mile drive from Santa Barbara to LA last night has never been more fun... or more terrifying for my fellow commuters :-D Downshifting is hilarious!Couple more for the moment...Couldn't have had better shifter placement if I made them myself.I'll write up the whole project soon. Wanna put a couple more miles on it before I deem it moderately reliable :-P
Nebor
That is very cool. Are you still using the AW30-40? And the stock B6304?

prasamin
wait, so those things on your steering wheel allow you to shift tranny gears without reaching for the shifter?
Hagan
Wow I was just thinking about this exact thing today because I saw a Maserati Cambiocorsa yesterday with it. I would love to know how you did this. And please tell me a AW30-40 is an automatic.

Also the auto you'll find behind non-turbo supras and Lexus L430s of mid to late nineties vintage.I always thought it was something of a dog, but so is the thing in our FWD Volvos. How did Volvo ever get so behind on automatic transmissions? I mean, look at the present S60R Automatics... or the S80 T6... just pitiful.
thelostartof
actaully it should be the same tranny that's in the TT suprasand for those that have yet to figure it out ... this would work on an 850 as they use the same PnP switch
Nebor
actaully it should be the same tranny that's in the TT supras←I believe that bit was disproved in the hayday of brickboard. But I could be wrong.

prasamin
too technical for me...so basically you can shift your auto tranny with those things, and make it like a manual?

I wonder why Peter L spent $3000 upgrading his transmission only to put ~350 hp through it?
thelostartof
because he didn't want to risk a used trans ... wanted to be sure it would hold the power .. and $3000 isn't a lot of $ on a trans so that's cheap in the way of a built trans (i've seen somehow people spend upwards of 6k+ on them)

He must have known that. And he must have known the condition of the transmission before he shipped it off to be worked over.It does shift MUCH faster now though. But with those fast shifts come that BANG feeling.
