Real Fmic Installed.

DISCLAIMER: I know the engine bay is a mess, all the vac lines will be correctly lengthed and cleaned, the pipes cleaned up, stray wires put away, proper soldering will be done, heatshrink, etc. etc. etc. I took these pictures the second I got home, so.

K, yeah. I posted earlier today w/o pictures 'cause I'm an idiot. Basically, we finished my FMIC install today. Used a Spearco 38x11x2.75 (core 30x11x2.75) intercooler, using 2 1/2'' pipes on the cold side, 2 1/4'' on the hot side, steel, etc. To make this work a good deal of fabrication was involved. OEM intercooler was removed and the AC Condensor and Radiator were pushed farther from one another by spacers, providing room for the hot pipe to run through the middle, the metal brace in the front had to be cut slightly to allow for this, a hole was cut in the frame to allow the cold side to pass through (consequently battery was moved to trunk). I need to heat wrap the hot pipe where it moves along the condensor so that my AC isn't affected much. This really isn't a setup that can be mass produced, nor really perfectly replicated. The guy who did the piping said this is the hardest FMIC setup he's ever done. Looks sick though :). Currently, I'm running on low boost setting (9 lbs) to prevent my engine from going PING PING PING. However, 9lbs...according to the butt-dyno, is better than 15lbs prior to the FMIC. To me this was far worth the time, effort, and $ as opposed to a drop-in replacement.

(I'll try to take some daylight pictures when I get back from UF orientation on Saturday or Sunday)

edit: Will have intake manifold temperatures maybe tommorow, but if not soon. If someone will take the temperatures with their stock ICs, on their Atechs or w/e aftermarket OEM replacement they are using, etc.

ive been thinking about doing this..

i just might have to order me a monkeyin intercooler.

It's been done a few times with 850s, easier I believe. Talk to Boost Addicted, he has one.

 so what is the pipe going into your TB??? i dont really understand how this setup works if some one could clear it up for me that would be great... is is just for Turbos or can a NA do this to??

The pipe going into TB would be my intercooler's cold pipe, moving pressurized air that has been cooled to the TB. This is turbo only as a FMIC is required for this setup and to have a FMIC you need a turbo. :)

what about a 30"x12"x3"

think i can make it fit..

=)

I don't know the 850 setup at all, assume it's the same? But it was HARD doing this, and making it even slightly bigger would be extremely hard. You'll lose your foglights for sure @ 12 inches long. I don't really recommend the FMIC setup for anyone unless they personally are VERY good at fabrication or have someone (or shop) that is. Also, an intercooler of that size is gonna be $$$, unless it's either crap or you got a good connection like I did.

That's similar to the one I have, tried to fit it in the silver 850 the other day for giggles. Not even close, you'd have to remove/move/cut a lot of things methinks :)

Jared's got about the perfect size for these cars.
