Claying And Waxing

I'm going to clay my car myself for the first time tomorrow (the So Cal meet is just 2 days away!), and I was wondering if anyone has some good pointers. As for waxing, I've seen zymol recommended as the wax of choice generally, but I was wondering if anyone has any other recommenedations. All tips are welcome.

I've used turtle wax, finish 2000, mother's, and zymbol. zymbol is by far the best. it's worth the extra cost.

I haven't used Zymol yet, but I've heard/seen great results with it. Claying is fairly simple, just get a kit that comes w/ clay and quick detailer spray, and follow the instructions.

A great wax that I have used as a finish is Meguiar's Tech Wax, the stuff provides an obnoxious shine, very deep.

I usualy cut a small piece of the clay bar and save the rest, about 1/4 is good. Wash the car and dont dry it yet so that the extra water can help lubricate. Mold the clay bar like a pancake, spray the lubricant then just glide the clay bar. Wipe it and move on panel by panel.

If you have some swirls or minor scratches its a good idea to polish or buff them off first before waxing.

cool place....southern california in middle of summer... hmm

maybe if I park in it in the middle of the ice rink...lol

Actually this has been one of the coolest summers I can remember here.

Seriously though I'll be doing in later in the evening, after the sun's gone down behind the house

Heh! (my crap is hogging the garage  )

Just make sure the surface of the paint is cool to the touch. Youll be able to feel it on the clay bar... if its easy to move then the surface is cool enough but if it sticks to the paint you're too warm. Also, make sure you wash your car with dawn or some other dish detergent to strip all of the old wax off of the car. I'll be re-waxing my car in a weekend or so... I can't wait!

That'll have to wait til next week. Current daytime hours are spent dremeling da projectas

Not a bad way to spend your time. I'd like to do them sometime, but they're semi-pricey to start (mainly because I'd get bimmer or audi projectors for both highs and lows).
