Turbo Boost Sensor Codes

Recently my '99 XC issued codes 236/237 and I am not sure what to fix in response. Code 236 is 'Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance' and 237 is 'Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Low'.

The behavior I am experiencing is a very sensitive throttle around 2K. Throttle body was just cleaned...behavior existed prior to cleaning. From what little I have been able to find on these codes, they seem to suggest that the input needed for low RPM turbo boost is in error and thus the car is responding as described on the low end of the RPM range.

Is there such a thing as a 'boost sensor'? If so, where is it? I have been poking around looking for anything related to the turbo and have come up empty. I really would like to avoid a trip to the dealer if this is something that I can do myself.

thanks

For a 1999 the volvo codes are four digits and the p codes are as well, where did you come up with those codes?

The ODBII code reader. There may be a leading 0 but these are what the unit is showing. Do I have a faulty reader? Is this device reporting bogus codes? I have used it in the past and the codes have been accurate and has pointed me at problems that I was able to fix.

Not saying your  reader is bad but if they are P codes which is what most OBDII readers read, then I'll have to look up the P codes convert them to Volvo codes and then give you a better answer.  or have you already converted them?

Thanks for the correction. They are P codes right off the ODBII reader and I am going by the generic descriptions associated with them. I don't have access to the Volvo specific descriptions. Any insights or pointers are greatly appreciated.

Ok they are P0236 and P0237 ..and yes that is a hard fault for the boost pressure sensor...however being that you just had your throttle housing cleaned perhaps something got missed or is loose?

Well I was the one who cleaned the throttle body and now that you have confirmed what is at fault and where it's located I surely do remember fighting with that sensor to remove it in order to remove the plumbing attached to the throttle body. I was unable to figure out how to unplug the sensor so instead removed it entirely by unclipping it from its attachment point. I simply clipped it back in when I was finished. Could I have loosened a connection or not properly seated the sensor in its attachment point? Or is the sensor simply broken and needs to be replaced? I'm guessing the later...

And speaking of replacement, I searched many Volvo parts sites and can't find anyone who sells a boost pressure sensor. Does it go by another name? Is this something that one can only get from the dealer? I wouldn't think so.... Any pointers as to where I can get one of these? If a simple replacement will fix the problem, I'm ready.

Thanks for your help and guidance...

Maybe atmospheric pressure sensor?

The part is called a MAP sensor by the parts people, the part number is 9125462.

You could get it at a dealer, or cheaper would be http://www.FCPgroton.com

You more than likely won't find the part on their web site, give them a call 877-634-0063, and tell them the part and number that you want.

I looked up MAP sensors and found them to be quite an expensive part. Dealer is well over $400 while FCPgroton and similar sites get about $300. Guess I have to suck it up and go get one...I should have guessed but given its small size I was hoping it would have had a price tag to match. What was I thinking....
