Need Advice On 850t Mods

Recommended Posts

Just got my hands on a 96 850T and I have a few modifications in mind for it, wondering what you guys think.

I would like to have this car around for a good while (its at 100k, but in super shape). I drive conservatively on the way to work in school, but would like to be able to romp on some Japanese cars when necissary .

Done already:

replace oil with Mobil 1 synthetic

K + N high flow filter in stock airbox (hear it's better than using a cone filter)

Possible future mods:

Flowmaster 50 muffler

Blow off valve

ECS?? - would like to have a low boost setting(lower than stock) so around town i can use less fuel, and high boost setting around 12.5 PSI with a properly mapped fuel curve.

Please let me know your opinion, and if you have any other ideas i should consider.

Welcome man! I'll be the first to tell you to fill out your location and your signature before Kevin gets in here. :)

What you want is a chip and full 3" exhaust. That should give you a good little increase in HP.

Chipping is a negative, at least until the bank no longer owns a portion of this vehicle. I just don't trust it and im looking to gain a little performance (to about ~240+) without any chips

You can purchase an insurance policy with the good chip companies, gauranteeing the safety of your engine.

Chambered mufflers are a big no-no on turbo'd cars. You need something straight-through such as magnaflow. BOV is pointless unless your CBV is torn or you just like the sound of it.

Welcome friend.

First, if you want to save on gaz, don't floor it.

second, if you want more power, get a manual boost controler and set it at 10psi.

Should give a nice kick since the stock boost controler lags the boost till about 60kph.

Do not get a performance muffer if you are aiming for 240hp, just do the boost mod.

The bov is a good choice, but do not use an open bov. Use somthing that is closed. like an HKS or a Turbo XS.

You may want to reconsider using mobile one on a car that has milage, since it may clean out your engien, and cause leaks. I have seen it happen.

(FYI, i use Kendal 20w50 oil, and it's 4X cheeper then synthetic) and i do my oil change every 6000km.

You may want to do the air box mod to get the air close to the ground.

Other then that. Enjoy the ride.

by the way.... Turbo cars are more efficent then NA cars so don't lower the boost.
