Sc-901 Eq Presets

V70-AAAHHHRRR

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the frequency curves for the SC-901's default settings? Specifically, for the C70 CONV UP setting?

C70 CONV UP sounds great to begin with... except that I'd like to use the CUSTOM setting to route more bass to the built-in subwoofers in the rear seats. I'd prefer to start with the original C70 CONV UP curve and tweak it, but have no way to see what the curve is to begin with. The only curve I can see is the CUSTOM curve, but its default is completely flat, and I'm having difficulty mimicking the preset C70 CONV UP sound.

Any insight or referrals to resources I've overlooked would be greatly appreciated.

ok, there are no subwoofers in the back seat.  those are just 8" 2 way speakers.

here's what you do, if you want good sound, pull that stock HU out, and get a nice aftermarket deck. :)

No, actually, the '99 C70 had an option for two 9" subwoofers inside the rear seats. They are listed as an option in the owner's manual, and you can purchase them separately from VLVworld.com. Fortunately, the used C70 that i just bought already came with them.

"Speakers set of subwoofers, 9 inches diameter, for C70 C70 1998-2000 9204655 New OEM $722.50"

http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.html?850/toc.htm

...and since the SC-901 is in multiple models, I figure more than just C70 owners might have insight into the preset EQ curves. Some, of course, may choose to ignore my question and answer something else instead.

The sound from the Alpine-built SC-901 is already excellent, in my opinion. Just looking to customize it a bit. Thanks.

This might help:

B - Setting the internal equalizer

  To select the frequency correction:

  · Switch off the radio.

  · Hold down preset button 2 (B).

  · Switch the radio on again.

  · Press button 2 until the desired curve appears : S70-V70-S40-V40-Custom.

Setting the custom equalizer (Custom EQ) - SC-901 only

  · Select "Custom EQ" by switching off the radio, holding down preset button 2 and switching the radio again. Select "Custom" (see point B).

  · Press Scan.

  · Press preset button 1-5 within 5 seconds:

Preset button 1 = set bass (60 Hz)

  Preset button 2 = set mid-range bass (200 Hz)

  Preset button 3 = set lower mid-range (800 Hz)

  Preset button 4 = set upper mid-range (3 kHz)

Preset button 5 = set treble (12 kHz)

  · Adjust the setting by turning the Tune knob clockwise (increase) or counterclockwise (decrease). The change can be seen in the display, as

  well as heard.

  · Use preset button 6 to adjust the settings of the front or rear speaker.

  F = Front

  R = Rear

Please note that the equalizer curves can be adjusted separately for the front and rear speakers.

  · When you are satisfied with the adjustments you have made, press Scan again to store the settings.

  · Press Scan once again to exit the settings mode.

Thanks for the link, Connor, but that info is the same as what's in my owner's manual. I can access and set each band; the challenge is figuring out what the default +/- values are for each band, front and rear, in Volvo's own presets.

I can customize based on a close sound, but was hoping to start out with the exact preset curve that is already pretty close to what I want.

I realize what I'm looking for is pretty obscure. Being preset in the deck, the numbers probably aren't even published in VADIS. Anyone know any sympathetic employees at Volvo or Alpine?

That article does have one thing I really liked to read:

'Since shortly after purchasing my '99 Volvo S70, I was somewhat disappointed with the quality of the sound system... [snip] ...This is surprising coming from a car company that put such a high end sound system in their C70 coupe and convertible vehicles that many car magazines called it "the best car stereo that we have ever heard," whether aftermarket or OEM.'

Maybe I do have to pose this question just in the context of the C70 rather than the SC-901... Something *is* different about the SC-901 in my C70: the only two EQ settings available are C70 CONV UP and CUSTOM. The SC-901 in my '99 V70R, on the other hand, features the full spectrum of five presets: S70-V70-S40-V40-CUSTOM.

I do have to agree with those car magazines. The SC-901 in the V70R sounds very good to me with my CUSTOM setting there, but the system in the C70 is on an entirely different level.

The C-70 is a completly diffrent bird in itself though?...They are noisy all together and don't see how you can even think about getting the same quality sound as your other car? Just my thoughts...I don't pay any attention to the stereo when I work on them though? ;)

Actually, the SC-901 in the C70 already blows away the sound quality of the SC-901 in the V70R. This is not by accident, nor because there's anything wrong in or V70R; the C70 setup includes the Dynaudio speakers, which have been written up elsewhere on Volvospeed. Theere as big a leap over the standard US stock speakers as has been claimed.

So, I'm not thinking about getting the same sound quality as in our other car at all! That would be a downgrade. I'm just looking to do something very specific to really capitalize on the built-in subs without compromising the generally phenominal sound that Volvo already programmed into the C70 CONV UP preset.
