Cannot Lock Passenger Door

Saw a similar problem over on Volvospeed, which then turned into the exact problem... No leads on an answer yet.

The problem: My C70 Convertible's passenger door just won't lock. The lock button is down, the alarm is on, the driver door locks just fine, and all you have to is pull on the handle and it opens right up as if it were unlocked.

What I know:

1.) It feels like the usual mechanical action of an unlocked door is there when I pull it open.

2.) When opening the door from the inside, if the lock button is down, it stays down. It won't pop up.

3.) The locking latch and mechanism in the door look perfectly normal -- exactly like the one on the driver's side.

4.) The remote will make the lock button pop up or down -- but it doesn't matter.

5.) The lock switches (driver and passenger side) will make the button pop up or down -- but it doesn't matter.

Any ideas?

6a.) There's a round rubber grommet, about 3/8" in diameter, a few inches above the door's latch mechanism and out toward the edge of the door on the driver's side. If you remove this and look inside, you'll see a long grey pin, about 1/8" in diameter, running horizontally from the outside to the inside of the door. I can't see what it does when I pull the handle, but there's a white plastic piece behind it that shifts in position a bit as the door handle is pulled open.

6b.) The rubber grommet, and the long grey pin visible through the hole, are both absent on the passenger's door. I can see where the pin would be, but it's just plain missing.

Unfortunately, my Chilton's is over at another house right now, so I can't make any more progress tonight.

Door lock assembly more than likely needs replacing.  I'd consider this a Volvo dealer item or at least and indy that has worked with the windows on the C70s.(the window has to be messed with to get the lock out, then adjusted correctly)

Drat -- but thank you. At least I know. I'll take a look at the latch repair info referenced above, but since it's going in for the 30K service at an independent shop on Friday anyway, but maybe I'll just switch over to the local dealership instead.

Thanks again.

Did you ever find the solution to this problem? I have the exact same problem. Was it the door lock assembly?

Yes, it was the lock actuator mechanism, exactly as had been suggested here. Had the delaer fix it. They're close, and I doubt that my preferred independent shop has that much experience with the window alignment issues of the C70 Convertible.

No recollection at all of what it cost, as I had them do the 30K service and a bunch of smaller things at the same time. Frankly, I'd really rather not know how much it cost me.
