Well I found two companies that can repair an ECM. I chose Auto ECM Electronics

2713 S. Great Southwest Pkwy.

Grand Prairie, Texas 75052

The cost was 350.00 as to 1400.00 from the dealer. I haven't received it back yet so the jury is still out. I shall get back after it has been installed. I also was told that the dealer COULD reprogram a used ECM but will not. They want to sell a new one. Can anyone confirm this?

Beware if you do any welding on car disconnect negative lead to battery FIRST !

Well my experience (at the dealer) is; When you get a new computer/module it comes with startup software in it, and then it's loaded once installed in the car with the VIDA cart. When or if you try it with a module that has already been programmed to another car, you get a mis match message and are stuck. I remember once we had 4 upper electronic modules that had been tried in a car until the correct one was finally installed. Those 4 modules could not be put back on the shelf and used/sold to a customer cause they wouldn't work. What happen is one of the Volvo reps came by the shop with a special program on his lap top and dumped the software that was in there and then loaded the start up software. We, the dealer do not have that ability, nor do I see us getting it.

So my experience is yes they like to make money, but in this case it doesn't apply. :P

Well, I got back the ECM, Auto-ECM, were supposed to have repaired. I should first note that the one I sent was not the same as the one I got back in the mail. So I was very suspect. One cannot interchange these units without the special software download from Volvo. So I put it in my car. Low and behold the car won't start. So I just got screwed by Auto-ECM. I believe they took my old one and sent me a used one off the shelf. Which I know will not work. I'll have to wait to call them Tuesady but it looks like I shall be going to the dealer for this ultimate repair. I guess the only frustrating thing is being lied to.

Have a great weekend.

Contacted Auto_ECm, they want to repair the unit. I guess I shall give them a chance to do good. We shall see!
