blown_volvo850r
My right front speakers that wouldn't play are getting alternator feedback. They run to the EQ, the EQ runs to the amp, and the amp runs to the head unit. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a ground somewhere, where should I splice in and run a ground?~Lee
merlin390
what head unit? what EQ? are you calling the cross overs EQs?
blown_volvo850r
No...I have a Sony ???-630 flip down head unit, Alpine equalizer mounted behind the left back seat (controls in the ashtray spot).~Lee
merlin390
okay, double check all your grounds. When I wired all my past systems I have always ran the ground back to the battery and never had any noice problems. You could try to ground the EG to the same ground as the head unit that might help you. I am assuming you are using RCA's to connect everything? If so move them around, worse case you used really cheap RCA cables and you have to buy a better shielded cable.
staggrlee
..., worse case you used really cheap RCA cables and you have to buy a better shielded cable.←You've got a ground loop, but then you knew that. If the RCAs are not at least twisted pair; junk them. So called inline noise or ground loop "isolators" are worthless IMO. They should be called noise attenuators.I had a similar problem in my S70 but once I ran all power to the HU, DSP etc. to the battery (not tapped at the stock HU harness location) and a common ground point for them; it went away. Also I think the stock radio uses a common as opposed to a floating ground (or vice versa) and most aftermarket decks use the other for the speakers but I don't have schematics. You can buy adapters for conversion of floating ground head units to match common ground speakers systems but I've never used them, don't know if they're bunk. AnthonyR
The EQ should be inbetween the amp and the HU, not between the speaker itself and the amp. If that's the case, that's your problem.
blown_volvo850r
Then I'm probably wrong in how I lined them up...it was done professionally at Goodman Radio in NJ (I think it's in NJ). I need to call them and ask them, they'll know since they did all the audio.~Lee
blown_volvo850r
It was the RCAs. It's a 5-channel amp, and on the channel that runs the front speakers, the right RCA cable was about to fall off the amp. Tightened it up and they played great. ~Lee
