DouginDenver
My headlight switch went bad last night - middle postion turns on instrument panel lights, but the full on postion gives headlights and no panel lights unless I push in on the switch. How does it come out for replacement? If it just prys out, is it from the bottom, top or sides?

You may be able to grab the knob and pull straight out...that is the piece you are replacing. Replacement switch is cheap ~$25.

V70-AAAHHHRRR
True, but only if his VIN matches the recall←Doug, you can always go to carfax.com without paying anything, enter your VIN, and see if it comes up with any open recalls. If it does, your dealer will be able to find out exactly which ones, and should rectify any/all at no charge.Just got my headlight switch replaced under recall after realizing it was broken and fixing it (temporarily) with a paperclip.-KB

Top, bottom or sides?←all of the above! take a small headed flathead screwdriver, and put a lil bit of electrical tape on it, and use it to pry out from all 4 sides. Remove the hex screw in the center of the panel over the driver's knees2.) Remove the panel itself3.) Reach on up in there and push it out from the inside.-KB
Bay13
It is not easy to pry out the head light switch, and I wouldn't. It is easy to pry out the dimmer switch just to the right of the head light switch. Pryout the dimmer, and then stick your finger in the hole where the dimmer switch goes and push the back of the head light switch as you gently pull on the knob wiggling it a bit. highspeed11
Since it's a '99 it's going to fall under the recall. C142I just pull off the knob with my fingers and then pull out the switch with pliers. They'll(the dealer)replace it for you so don't waste your time with it. They replace it if the tabs are broken or it is of the wrong part number.
