The Sound Of Silence

i didn't notice that sound until I put a cone filter on there, but I don't think its bad at all.

Did you notice any increase in the sound level for the turbo spool ( with the cone )? Sounds like getting a cone filter and taking off the airbox will definatly increase the turbo spool (whine) and the cbv whoosh. Definatly going to get one now... B) (about time)

Hmmm....my 850 with Upsolute chip, K&N, and custom cat back performs very strongly.

Yet-  I am not aware of any significant "whoosh".  I booost clear off to the right of my stock boost gauge.

What am I missing ?  How come no "whoosh" ?

The "whoosh" sound everyone is talking about is from the release in pressure from the turbo. From the inside of my S60 you can't hear the whoosh at all...unless you roll down the windows, turn off all the climate control stuff, and the radio and really listen for it (and then you can BARELY hear it). From the outside of the car ( next to it for example ) is when you can really hear it, in my car at least. I imagine your 850 would make the whoosh sound just as most turbo's do. Try hitting the gas all the way till about 2,500 rpm and suddenly letting it off. That's an easy way to get the turbo blow off valve to make the whoosh. hey idk though I really don't even know as much as 85% of the people on here and probably shouldn't even be replying, lol...

no, the sound i wanna hear is when i get on it and hear the turbo sucking in air and that REALLLLY high hissing sound. Its not super loud, but in this car, i cant hear a hint of it.

the blowoff everyone is talking about isnt what im after, iit always sounded to me like the engine was poppin' off a few silent but deadlies, when the CBV would come into play.

Not that it helps much but I notice a HUGE difference in sound with the heat shield removed. I was playing around with the waste gate rod awhile back

I never took the time to put the shield back on until recently and it made a huge difference on how it made it so quiet......And all of this on a little turbo. ;)

As far as removing the heat shield...what would be the issues , if any, with the removal of it ? Example: heating everything in the engine bay up more or parts around it and really needed the heat shield there. Does it do that much to begin with or is it more for added quietness/heat decrease?
