PyROZen
Okay, so i just bought a pair of the Alpine Type-R 5 1/2" with the external crossovers. They sound awesome, it just sucks that i had to put them in the REAR doors instead of the front where i wanted them. I've tried 2 5 1/2" speakers in the front doors and none of them fit, usually them bottom out on the outside door panel. Will i have to get some shallow mount speakers if i am to ever replace the fronts?side note, got a good deal on the speakers as well. $80 for the set, i always buy the floor model (if it's still in mint cond.) BenW
You MIGHT be able to make a about a 3/4" baffle to space the speaker out a hair. Thought of that?

Thought of that?←i thought of that but the tweeter sticks out too far and the grille doesn't fit back on. I might just sacrifice and get a nice pair of 4" if i can't find aything. Boomin850
Crutchfield :←F crutchfield...they said that they are 4". Get some nice MbQuarts. I got the seperate components (see sig) and put the tweeter in the stock tweet location and have the speaker where it's supposed to be. Fit with no mods at all. I ended up with the crossover screwed on to the plastic panel by where your legs go. The MbQuarts sound sooooooo good too. crystal clear. You can usually find them cheap on ebay too...if you're into that.-MIKE D
steve s
not every 850 will fit 5.5 or even 5.25. i know my kappas 52.5i didn't fit initially. charles didn't either. but there were other ppl who have it did fit in their front.so do what charles and i did.. careful dremel and repaint. make sure to catch all the filings...otherwise they rust. just tape of the back side with some tape and paper.
