sks40
I know that the rear brake pistons on the S40 are to be turned clockwise while applying pressure and that there is a special tool for this. Does anyone have a good method wsing more common tools? I am able to turn it using a pair of spread needle nose pliers but can't apply enough inward force.Stan
sks40
Ok, so I called my local Volvo parts department asking about the brake tool (part number 999 5782). They said that it can't be ordered. I takled to service asking them about the tool and where they order their tools. They said that these Volvo "specialty" tools are not available to the general public. So am I screwed? I am trying not to get into a rant session about how this is my 2nd Volvo and why I bought it, I don't know. They are a pain in the @$$! Mostly because of Volvo Corp and it dealerships. 850guy
I would give my friends over af FCP Groton a call (http://www.fcpgroton.com ) and see if they can track down the tool for you. They have allways been very helpful, and might not be trying to get you in for a brake job. Other than that I am really at a loss, I have never heard of a piston that needs to be rotated while compressing. Hopefully Rich will be able to shed some light!~Eric
Bay13
The Lucas caliper requires the tool, the VW uses the same tool for their rear calipers, go to a parts store, and explain what tool you need and they should have a generic one that will work just fine. Guest Guest_hrm
I used a pair of lockring pliers. Took a little effort but they worked well and I had them laying around.

Each side has a different key to fit different calipers. These go for around $10. Would that work?Otherwise I got a price from Volvo Partsworld of $150 for the genuine article.Stan
