DouginDenver
Up until recently I thought if you went to a dealer there was a set retail price for a part - or at least no more than a buck or tow one way or the other. I now conclude there must a be a real price, and a "he looks like a sucker" price. I called a dealer about some parts, and on one part got a price of $183. I finally went to order one, but went to dealer a few miles closer. He said that will be $275. I said I had priced it at another dealer, and without blinking he said "OK, I can do $180." Without any hestation he was going to charge me $95 more, and without any shame when I called him on it. Anybody know the inside scoop? How does parts pricing really work? merlin390
parts pricing is complicated some dealers use matrix pricing ( dont understand how it works completely so I dont fool with it)then you have the SRP what the price list from Volvo RECOMMENDS charging.then you have some who will cut the price of the part to make the sale (some percent is better than no percent) then you have the asshole price ( you know the customer that comes in acting like a hotdog)Price is subject to change based on Parts counterman/woman attitude, customer attitude, and company policy(s)hope that helps :D
fastboy
well, parts people are an odd breed driven by profit. automaker set an msrp..... thats where the grey area begins.... we can charge more we can charge less. usually in our best interest we charge retail
merlin390
another thing is it depends on how they are paid. If they make hourly plus commission, straight commission, bonuses etc

Just to make the sale I will cut the price by as much as I have to. in this economy now some percent is better than no percent.automatic discounts:plus if she is cute/hot/etc she gets a discountif they own a business they get a discountFord employeecertain repeat customerslaw enforcement/military
