Volvo S80 Maintenance

Hello,

We are coming up on 60k miles on the wife's 2000 2.9 non-turbo S80, and it looks like the serpentine belt (among other things) is due for replacement. I would like to do this myself, as the nearest Volvo dealership is about 400 miles away. Are there any special tools or tricks to this replacement? What about OEM vs aftermarket belts? I found out the hard way about aftermarket brake pads; man, did they squeak.

I am also considering cleaning the ETM. Any tips on removal and cleaning? My understanding is that no software load is required if you remove/clean/replace your existing ETM, but a dealer software load is required if you install a new ETM. Is that correct?

v/r,

Kevin

Well, you almost got it....Let me rephrase:

Do you need a software load in you install a new ETM, as in off the shelf, out of the box?

If you remove your existing ETM, clean it, and then replace it do you need a software load?

Hope this clarifies the question(s).

Thanks

NO SOFTWARE download needed to remove and clean...and being a N/A it's not too difficult to remove, clean and reinstall. You will also want to replace your plugs and air filter. Also the cabin filter as well. As for an aftermarket belt :P never use the stuff,OEM only try FCP Groton for your parts. Good luck and have fun ;)

Thanks for the advice. Got my OEM brake pads from Groton, they seem to have good prices on the real parts.
