Maintenance Reference Suggestions

Besides this site, what is a good maintenance reference for our automobiles? We have a 2001 Volvo V70XC. For our use, we would be looking for something that would help a beginner educate themselves about the working of their car. Diagrams, pictures, etc. would be great. That way when we are reading this website, etc. we can use this reference to provide further undertanding. It may be a reference that would provide more intermediate or advanced information as well.

We looked up Chiltons and they have a service you can get online but they don't appear to have the 2001 model yet.

There are no Chilton or Haynes manuals for these cars. The limited amount of books available from Volvo are crap. These cars like all other manufacturer's today are extremely technical. The info Volvo Dealers have are mostly on DVD ROM or are internet based. Factory published books would be too expensive in the limited quantity currently necessary for every model made. I know that the old Volvo diagnostic system VADIS discs which require a license code, do find their way onto eBay, but there is no way I would want to put those files on my PC.

I was able to get some exploded view diagrams from ALLDATA at the public library near us. I was able to locate the diagram I was looking for but the database seems sparse.

Google for "ALLDATA public library" shows many libraries have the ALLDATA info available.

If anyone finds mor complete info, love to hear about it.
