bmwtinut
I ran into trouble today. Tried to open the hood of my 2000 V70R and it started to release the hood and bang the cable went slack. Now the cable is still attached to the handle and loose and the hood is latched shut. Luckily I have a '98 V70 at home to compare it to and see how the cable is attached. Anyone know if the '98 and 2000 have the same cable set ups? I hope so. Any hints on how to approach fixing this? Any suggestions would be great.Todd Davis'00 V70R laser blue'98 v70 AWD

MrWinkey
I believe you can pull your corner marker lights out and access the latches from there.
bmwtinut
I thought of that but can't seem to figure out how to remove the light with the hood closed. There is a tab that needs to be pushed to release the light. I guess I could just try and pull but don't want to break the tab on the light. Bay13
If you can actually get to the release, then break the tap, not a problem, drill a small hole where the tab broke and Tie wrap it in place when you put it back in. I've done that for customers all the time to save them from having to buy a new assembly.
bmwtinut
I actually figured out how to get the corner light out and was able to get the hood unlatched. The trick is that you can see the tab that holds the light in place if you shine a flashlight in the hood/fender seam. I was able to use a long thin knife to press on the tab and then pull out the light. I then disconnnected the light and was able to see the lever. I used a bent a coat hanger into a hook and was able to hook onto the lever and pull the lever. Pop goes the hood! I discovered that the cable actually snapped and the wire was all mangled. Just what I wanted to find out after only owning the car for 2 days. Luckily I work for ScanTech and I think we make that part.
