benson304
Just wondering if you could give some suggestions and input.Right now I have an Alpine 9803 head unit, and two Alpine Type S speakers in the rear doors, I know front first, but the rears blew.I want to upgrade to a full-scale system I guess you would say, all new speakers, amp sub all that stuff.I don't need some off the way crazy system, just something that will fit my needs and sound good.I am probably going to get the same type s speakers for the front doors because they sound fine in the rears. Now here is where the things come up.How do you take the rear grills off the deck speakers? And what speakers should I get that will fit without much effort, basically, without having to drill and stuff cause I don't really have that kind of experience or resource. And as for the sub, I was planning on putting a box in the trunk, it's not too hard to build one right? I was thinking about making a fairly compact small one, so it would take up the least amount of space possible, suggestions again on this are welcome. I'm not sure what size sub to get, or how many, along with what size amp. Should I switch the power of the speakers over to the amp, or just leave them deck powered and amp the sub?I have little experience actually doing anything like this, but I am itching to get out and do it, and learn in the process. I have an 850 by the way if that's any help, and I'm looking to spend around $500 or so.

Overboost850
To get the rear speakers out you go into the trunk and undo the bolts back there then the whole assembly should come out and you take it apart from there. I can also answer most of your other questions on AIM. But have to turn in a paper quickly and then I'll be back.BRuss07

JPigg34
With a sub, no rear deck speakers are necessary. With $500, you could get a nice sub/amp combo. I like Alpine. Check them out for subs and amps. You could go with a 12" Alpine Type-R (sub) and then go with a Alpine MRV-T420 (amp). That would run you about $400 after wires and shipping. benson304
That would actually probably be better, if I just went nice and simple with 4 speakers and a sub in the trunk.I really like Alpine's stuff, so if that's the best to suggest then it's cool. ToxicLemonade
i kept my stock speakers and just put my 2 12's in the back of my 95 850 with my box and all. I bulit a bracket to hold the box to the back part of the trunk so i had some trunk space. I am running a rockford fostgate 250 watt amp to the 12's and have a kenwood reciever pushing the component speakers and it sounds fine and loud when i want it to be. Be carful when building your box because if you dont built it to the correct dimensions it wont sound good.
benson304
So let's say I just get a sub and amp, what would be the best?If possible I would not mind spending less How should I power the speakers? I'm not good with this stuff, so the more simple it is the better.

Jozone
bing how tough is it to run new speaker wire through a typical volvo? how would you go about removing the factory gromets, and replacing them with skrews? my front right speaker is toast so for my b-day I think Im gonna get a 4 channel amp and some new speakers, and am wondering how tough it will be. Bing_0
well, i havent gotten a chacne to reall look at it, but it doesnt look easy, if its not high power you cna just get away wtih running speaker wires to the back of hte headunit, and then splice into the stock wiring (of course you should get a wiring harness to do this...or else, i may just drill two new holes, one on the door, on on the body panel where the door meets, use grimmits and wire loom to make it look neat...b

Running a 4 channel amp in the trunk to power 8 speakers (two per zone wired in parallel (zones divided as FL, FR, RL, RR in an attempt to preserve stereo imaging)) New wire was run to the front dash speakers and to the rear deck speakers. I kept the door wiring as I figured it to be too difficult to run. I brought the wiring from the amp to be tied in and distributed behind the HU. I will try to post a writeup to let everyone know how it went.
